  • Great value
I really liked how well the tool was made and how well tool performs, especially like the guide that has built in so you can edge plane with a good degree of accuracy

  • Advice: mark a plane-line before starting. Otherwise it sure is easy to plane too much easily.
Would recommend this product. My sticking interior wood door is no-more. However, I didn't mark a plane line on my door corner before I began. I planed some, then some more, then some more to make sure that I had no more sticking door (that's a new poem line). Left or Right discharge chute was simply and convenient. Adjustment knob easy to hold and click, though I left at default setting. Went right to work and never ran out of power with 4aH battery. Re-installed door and good and bad news. The good: definitely no more sticking door. The bad: now one corner is significantly lower than the rest. Careful; it is easy to plane too much too easily. That's a good thing overall though and a lesson-learned. ... show more

  • LOVE it!
I've been wanting a planer for a few years now, but am fairly new at woodworking as well as on a fixed income, so definitely didn't want to break the bank. This far exceeded my expectations! It's super easy to use and has plenty of power for the boatload of projects I have planned. I need to get more practice, but that's the fun part! Great cordless planer! ... show more

  • Some suprises
Never had an electric hand planer before. Came in manufacturers box inside amazon box, able to register via contained info.Much heavier than anticipated but well balanced with battery in place. Works as noted in other reviews. I imagine blade change is similar for all brands as blades fit all similar models. What a hokey system. Loosen three bolts " but not too loose or blade alignment might change" . How loose is too loose? Is this a new technical term ? Instructions also talk about pushing with a screwdriver and beating with wood! Good lord. This is a tool Ryobi. You do not attack it with weapons. Here you go: loosen three bolts, attempts to slide carrier out. If stuck tap front right edge of carrier with small punch. Continue slide out. If bolts catch, loosen more. When out, tap blade held in gloved hand on wood, remove blade, insert new. If really stuck, pry off rear plate of carrier and reinstall. Many vids available. Pictures and text in ryobi instructions not very clear. Tool is top notch otherwise. ... show more

  • Planes for days!
This planer made quick work of a custom thick set of heavy doors we have on our office. We had been trying to sand the doors using a hand sander to keep them from rubbing on the floor after installing them as they were slightly too long after the wood expanded in the summer months. This planer made quick work of the job and left a clean surface at the bottoms of each door. Pros: easy to use, works with the typical Ryobi 18v battery that many of their other hand tools use, blade appears easy to change, adjustments are quick and easy with the knob Cons: none found yet, I will update if that changes Looking forward to doing the remaining interior doors on our home as we have been remodeling all of our doors and now that we have this little gem, they should go much faster! ... show more

  • Does a great job
The plane was solidly made and easy to use. I could have purchased a corded tool but generally prefer cordless whenever possible. I needed to take 3/8" off the bottoms of 13 interior doors. I averaged two doors on a 4AH battery. Luckily I have a reasonable collection of batteries so it wasn't a problem. The plane was a little noisy and there was a lot of fine dust so I wore ear protection and a mask. I think the Ryobi planer was great value and gets my recommendation. ... show more
