  • Not Designed by Off-Roaders, Or Folks Who Go Over Bumps
I drive a 05 Wrangler TJ with a three inch lift, big tires etc. I have great suspension and while it rides great its a JEEP! If you are using a phone that is the size of an iPhone 6 plus, a Samsung S7 Edge or another larger phone then you may really want to reconsider. While the listing says it will fit a phone up to 3.6 inches wide my S7 Edge and my wife's iPhone 6 Plus frequently pop out of the mount. Yes we are making sure they are very secure in the mount. It happens especially if you are on any kind of real bump. If you are using a large phone this device will hold your phone in place for driving around town but be aware it will occasionally pop your phone out and your phone, having succumbed to the forces of gravity, will go wherever it goes. That may be on the floor of your vehicle, that may be out the door area if you (like me) ride without doors. I have caught my phone twice before it escaped... its all in the reflexes (-; If you are doing any off roading from dirt trails to heavy duty off roading DO NOT TRUST YOUR LARGER PHONE TO THIS DEVICE, or do so at your own risk. As for the installation it fits nicely, and is easy to instal. So why did I not return mine? Well, after two other such failed devices I figured I would fabricate my own mount solution, now it holds my phone(s) much better. ... show more

  • What warranty?
I bought this last August for a 2000 Wrangler. Mounting is easy. Double side tape and three screws. The phone holder itself had two strips of rubber to hold your phone. This is sufficient if you are on smooth roads. If you go over rough roads , it will drop your phone. The first time it happened for me, it could not hold my phone (iPhone 7+ in an otter box case) while driving across a bridge. Each expansion section seemed to jar the whole mount and it basically sent my phone flying. Thank goodness I had the charger attached and stopped it from going further. I know Wranglers are not very smooth rides, but this holder is made specifically for wranglers by an off-road company. The bumps here and there shouldn’t cause my phone to drop all the time. Then lately I noticed that the holder wouldn’t even hold my phone while trying to put it in the clamp. When I looked closer, the rubber holder has ripped off its support. Time to contact Rugged Ridge. I went online and started a trouble ticket. I provided a picture of the broken part. It’s been over two weeks and so far no response. So much for the 5 year warranty if there is no support for it. ... show more

  • and my phone stayed sturdy in the mount
Because my Jeep is my play vehicle and I off-road more often than not, I didn't want to post a review until I had ridden around with this in different conditions. I am in an 02 TJ on knotty 35's and wouldn't say I have the smoothest ride in the world on a normal day, so I was pleasantly surprised when I went off-road...both trail riding and in mud...and my phone stayed sturdy in the mount. Note: I also had a lifeproof case on my iPhone 6. So...not sure hat is happening with the other installs, but I am very happy! No, the unit is not perfectly flush to the console...but do you really expect that as an aftermarket part? It bothered me until I drove in it and realized that I had way more things to pay attention to than that. It's hardly a nuance and I'm very particular. Bottom line, I recommend this product and am impressed and happy! ... show more

  • The tray is good, phone holder ok.
So I installed the holder with phone holder in a 04 Jeep TJ. The install was super easy and the tray itself is nice. The phone holder however is another story. I went to install it on the ball and found the locking ring was SUPER TIGHT. I mean ridiculously tight. I had to really push it to get it to start on the threads and with a couple turns once it was started it split. It was only a couple turns when it snapped and you can see the gap in the attached pictures. I've used many holders similar to this and do not believe it was an error on my part. There is just no way that was the proper size ring. As for the phone holder it would probably be fine for a thin phone but my Samsung S8+ has a battery case on it so it's thicker than most. Because of this it doesn't hold well at all in the holder. I do like the ability to add accessories to the holder and have put a clip on the phone holder screw. I can now easily clip my action cam in place when wanted and then unclip it when I'm not using it to clean up my dash. Update-3/5/20 I reached out to their warranty department and filled out the form. The next day I got an email asking for my receipt. I sent screenshots and the next day they had a new phone holder on the way. I got it today and the ring on this one is correct. It screwed on easily like it should. I plan on using this to hold my Samsung S5 that I'm using as a remote for my action cam. It will do this well and puts it in a good location. I raised a star because of their customer service. I'm very happy with it and now have a second phone holder as they sent the entire holder instead of just the ring. ... show more

  • I was relieved when I got it and saw that it fit over the stock useless console. The new console will actually hold whatever ...
Saw this product for the JK with tons of reviews, only after searching I finally found it for my TJ but couldn't find any reviews on any site so I bought it blind. I was relieved when I got it and saw that it fit over the stock useless console. The new console will actually hold whatever I want, glasses, wallet, change, what ever and the cell phone Holder works great, holds my note 5 snug even over bumps, and the mount on the back works great for a gopro. ... show more
