🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The carpet cleaner has received mixed reviews, but many users find it effective, especially in rigorous cleaning scenarios. Initial setup issues like air locks are quickly resolved with simple fixes, and the machine's powerful cleaning capabilities are frequently highlighted. However, some users did experience significant drawbacks, such as inadequate water extraction, unpleasant smells, and design issues.

Pros

  • 🌟 Effective in removing tough stains and dirt, even outperforming professional services
  • 💧 Powerful water extraction capabilities for some users
  • 🏋️‍♂️ Suitable for heavy-duty, commercial, and residential use
  • 📐 Compact design with convenient features for easy storage and operation
  • 👀 Clear reservoirs and measurement tools enhance user experience

Cons

  • 💧 Some units experienced poor water extraction, leaving carpets overly wet
  • 🔊 Higher than expected noise level, with some requiring ear protection
  • ⚖️ Heavier and bulkier compared to other models, complicating maneuverability
  • 🔧 Initial setup and operational quirks, including air lock issues and tanks appearing used
  • 👃 Unpleasant burnt rubber smell reported by one user

Should I Buy It?

If you're seeking a robust carpet cleaner capable of handling heavy-duty cleaning tasks and are willing to troubleshoot initial setup issues, this product might be a good fit. The potential for powerful cleaning results can justify its price for many. However, if ease of use and reliability straight out of the box are your top priorities, you might want to consider other options or be prepared for possible adjustments and fixes.

  • Dissatisfaction...to amazement
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Original
First off, we have tried every consumer brand of home carpet cleaner and haven't really been satisfied. This model was chosen first due to it being a commercial style machine with a high rating. Our first impression was disappointment, the pump wouldn't pump and the 800 help line wasn't any help. They basically just read the troubleshooting section of the owners manual. 1 quick online search and I found that some new machines get air locked and will not allow cleaning solution into the small inlet hole (blue arrow). Two seconds w/ the activation handle pulled and a toothpick inserted into hole fixed the not priming issue. WoW! This thing extracts water and dirt like no machine I've used before. A week after a 'professional national carpet cleaning company' charged me $400, this red machine pulled stains and dirt left behind. Worth every penny, IMO. ... show more

  • Rug Doctor Pro for the Win!
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Pet Pack
I own rental property and was quoted $250 to deep clean by a professional van based type of cleaner. I couldn’t get a guarantee that all the stains would come up so I put that $250 into this rug doctor Pro and hoped for the best, and if it didn’t pull it off I’d have a good cleaner for my house at least. It did a pretty solid job. All that’s left is some minor marks and carpet lightening in the high traffic areas, but the house is rentable without having to install new carpets! First 3 pictures are before, last there are the same rooms after. The very last picture shows the difference in what one pass with this thing did on the filthy carpet. Look at the difference between that row and the rest of what I was about to tackle. I only gave it less than 5 stars for ease of use because it is big and you will get a workout if you do the whole house. ... show more

  • Don't buy this thing.
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Oxy Pack
I have rented these Rug Dr. units forever and have owned light duty home units that seem to work for 10 or so uses. Thought I would love a commercial unit at home. It came looking almost as if it had been used. Fluid in tank and some dirt, but I forged ahead. Filled tank, plugged in and everything seemed to work except no fluid came out. Looked at troubleshooting guide and mostly it dealt with dirt from use or they thought their customers were morons... (plugged in? Pushing button? etc.) Called customer service, not open on the weekends. Looked at YouTube and got advice on priming the pump. On 4th try, that worked but I was over two hours working on this and we are getting ready for a wedding and didn't have time to waste. Rug Doctor, spend the extra 35 cents with your Chinese motor maker and buy the self-priming pump! Did two rooms and on the third, the beater bar quit running. Thought it was the belt or something keeping the bar from rotating. Nope, motor for beater bar seems to be inoperative. Two problems on first use with what is supposed to be a Commerical quality machine is two problems too many. I will rent from now on or hire a carpet cleaner. I think it looks to be heavy and looks to be Commercial quality but I think it is a cheaply-made imitation. Extremely disappointed and I buy a lot of things from Amazon and have returned hardly any. Maybe Amazon ought to not sell this particular product or anything from Rug Doctor. ... show more

  • Designed for Commerical Use, Awesome for Non Commercial Use
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Original
I have a lot of furniture packed into a very small house so moving everything and cleaning the carpets with a rental unit all in one go wasn't a good option. I bought this so I could do rooms in halves or thirds at my own pace. I also got the small unit that goes on the end of a hose for cleaning stairs, closets, against slanted walls, edging, etc. It is a bit easier to move around and work with than the older models found for rent in many stores. I love the smaller clear fluid reservoirs, built in measuring cup, and that the unit is very compact for storage and hauling around. If you like your carpets or upholstery way way cleaner than you'll ever get it with a dry vacuum, I highly recommend this for deep cleaning. ... show more

  • Doesn’t work - fix found (updated)
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Original
Got this and it does not spray water after many trouble shooting videos. The tank also had water in it when we got it out of the box. I wonder if these are not new but refurbished. Ok so I found a fix for this. What you need to do if you have this same problem is to take a toothpick and stick it through the small plastic cap at the bottom of the clean water tank. It will break an air seal that is preventing the water from going into the pump. After we found this fix and used the machine it works amazingly!!!! However, still a little creeped out it looked used. 4 stars. ... show more

  • Massive disappointment
Pattern Name: Cleaning Machine Style: Original
After years of renting these, I decided to own one. Had high hopes for this one based on price but unfortunately it was a big disappointment. 1. Soaks carpet very quickly and only suctions about 1/4 of that water. Entire tank is depleted on one rug. 2. Horrible smell - after the first rug, the motor started to smell of burnt rubber. Defective maybe? 3. Extremely loud - high pitched sounds that almost require ear protection when in use. 4. Much heavier than any other commercial rug cleaner I’ve ever used 5. Design flaw on the handle - no release button, supposed to lock and release on its own but gets stuck in unlocked position when in use so have to stop and lock it in order to manoeuvre the machine around corners. 6. Ok - this one is sort of nit picking, but I found it to be extremely annoying. On all other machines I’ve used, the dirty water tank is in the back so you can see the water getting suctioned as you’re rolling the machine. On this one, it’s in the front, making it impossible to gauge how wet the rug still is and what areas require additional suction time. Overall terrible, no redeemable factors to mention. Annoyed that I have to lug this beast to the UPS store to return it. ... show more
