    • Pretty good for learning but needs magnets
This connected cube X actually has a ton to offer but has one major issue that brings it down. I'll start with the good stuff. The cube was super easy to get connected to my phone, probably the easiest of the connected cubes that I have tried. It just worked on the first try! You get on the app and there is a whole academy section to teach you how to solve the cube and then practice runs where you can solve the cube. The stats section is great, I really thought it was well done and even the games are fun. There is also a solver which really helps when people, who are learning, do a bunch of crazy turns and need to start over. All this is amazing and makes this cube a really solid cube. Where this cube loses a star is that it doesn't have any magnets for snapping the turns and so is kind of mushy in your hands and constantly locks up. They did the corner-cutting for the corner pieces just like any speed cube you will find, but neglected to add in magnets on what is supposed to be a speed cube when magnets are entirely what make a speed cube "speedy." It makes zero sense to add in the ability to corner-cut but not have magnets to snap the turns. Without them, you end up with sore forearms and are constantly having lock-ups. I own a lot of cubes and so for comparison, I can do a regular speed cube in under a minute now, on this am at probably over three minutes. Also another point is the rankings: The current top lists are standing at around 3-seconds, which I assume is fake—These rankings probably need to be reset every month and anything under 15 seconds should get a manual check. ... show more

Unfortunately, this Rubik’s cube disappointed in both hardware and software aspects. To start with the only positive thing: the packaging. It arrived very well packaged and could make a nice gift. Connecting it to the app was easy and straightforward, though a big con here is that the app forces you to create an account. However, while the initial connection is easy, the cube would disconnect every minute or so, and the app would display “Connecting,” but it would never reconnect even after moving the cube and seeing the red LED light up. I always needed to kill the app and start over, which basically renders this app useless. On the hardware side, things are not great either. I’m not an expert when it comes to Rubik’s cubes, but this one feels too mushy and inarticulate in hand. There’s no snapping into place when turned, which causes a lot of locking if you try to solve it quickly. Eventually, the state of the cube got out of sync with the app. I found a “Load Cube State” option in the app, but it’s implemented quite badly. After 5 minutes of syncing the state, it just showed an error and lost all my entries. At this point, I gave up and gave this cube to my toddler to use as a colorful toy. Overall, it’s not a great product, doesn’t work as expected, and I wouldn’t recommend it. ... show more

    • This is the way to learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube
I have always wanted to learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube, but I have never been successful. I’ve read articles, watched videos, had people try to teach me, but I just couldn’t get it. However, this connected cube made learning so much easier. Connecting the cube to my phone was not difficult, and once connected, the training is systematic and clear. But, unlike watching videos online, this reacts to your motions and lets you know when you’ve made a mistake, even walking you through how to correct it to where you were before the mistake. It took about 2 hours of repeating the tutorials to finally get it, but I can finally solve a Rubik’s cube consistently. I cannot recommend this cube enough for anyone who wants to learn how to solve it and learn it for life. ... show more

    • Definitely a way to learn, cube moves too easily.
I like it. It feels a little smaller than my other original Rubik's cube and it feels like it moves too easily almost. Like I feel like when I turn I over turn it often. Utilizing the app is actually kind of neat. You can rotate the image of the cube on your screen and see different cube faces and see that it matches the cube in your hand. And when you're practicing and turn face you'll see the virtual cube turn as well. Super neat! I did try to follow it up but some of the help videos to solve move so quickly I'm like "ok what just happened" and got lost a little bit. But when you start to solve it and hit check point along the way to solve it, for example you get the top face or the first and second rows you'll get a "bing" from the app the you successfully completed a step. So I do like this cube, could be a great gift for someone who wanted to learn or even start to time themselves. The ease of turning does not feel like it's cheaply made. Growing up in the 70's, I was enamored by the Rubik's Cube, which was all the rage. It's popularity has surely waned over the years. This little refresher is what's needed to infuse some new life into an antiquated toy. Good move. Until they ruined it. Upon installing the app and running it, I was prompted to sign up for an account. Then I noticed in fine print next to a checkbox, which was checked by default, the notice that reads "Keep me updated on news, events and special offers from Particula ltd." And I also find a whole slew of cr@pware that was installed without my permission. Shame. An old idea on life support. And then they pulled the plug on it. These shenanigans have to stop.
