  • The answer to "What, and for how long should I practice?"
The Rubank Series of books are such an affordable and excellent source of material that no one who is serious about learning their instrument should be without them in their library. Difficult fingerings, articulation, timing in all major and most common minor keys - it is all here. While most of the etudes are classical in style, playing them accurately and with correct articulation and timing should challenge anyone. Trying to learn the whole Charlie Parker catalog? Practice all of these excercises with your metronome set to 260 bpm and you will have the tool you need for all hard bop. While the organization of the material seems confusing, it is only so if you have not read the introduction. The recommended series of excercises are laid out in 40 lessons in each of the Advance volumes - similar to what might be covered in an academic school year back in 1940. Follow the plan, master the lessons (honestly - play them without making mistakes), and move on to the next lesson. If the first few lessons are easy warmups - move to the next ones. By the time you finish volume 2, you will be in great shape to take your playing to the next level, whatever your goal is. And going back to these lessons makes for a great warm up when you practice. I cannot recommend these books highly enough! ... show more

  • Great for learning and improving on your favorite instrument
These book are very good. There are a lot of similarities between all the books in this line. Each one does have specific exercises for improving difficult fingers for the given instrument. I have purchased this for flute, saxophone and clarinet. The Advanced Method books are my favorite.

  • Some great scale and arpeggio patterns.
That's the main reason I bought the book, and I've even been using it to apply to scales on my guitar. The fingering exercises alone are worth the price of the book. If this doesn't train those digits, I don't know what will. The table of trills is new to me, and I quite enjoy that. There's a lot of quality material to learn here. I haven't made it to any of the solos yet. Some of them look plenty difficult to me, though, so perhaps I MIGHT need to go back and get Intermediate for melody playing until I've had time to get back up to speed. It's been over twenty years since I played my sax. I'm having fun with it and amazed that I still remember all the fingering. In case you need it, though, there's a thorough fold-out fingering chart. I like the old fashioned, strictly business look and feel of the Rubank Books. You get your money's worth. ... show more

  • Great Practicing Piece.
It's a great tool for those who are looking for extra practice outside of a band, ensemble, or orchestra. Really helps me understand music, and read charts better with ease. I would highly recommend this to anyone who's looking for that extra boost, or practice.

  • Saxophone Teacher's Review
For student material, and for something in "common keys", this book is very good. It's something even a seasoned player can use to work on their sight reading. Unlike the other volumes, this has some substantial solo and duet material, making it a lot more fun to study. As an instructor myself, I enjoy this book, although not as much as Advanced Method Vol 2. This book would be good for someone who can read music, but still plays by ear. The duets and even the solo pieces are theoretically sound enough to invite such meditations as; chord theory, counterpoint, relative major, etc. Alternatively, this would be a great book to have around to talk about music theory. The duets in it would be great to analyze. All around, I enjoy this book and this series. ... show more

  • Great Product!!!
I love the inside of the tights and how they feel. Especially the way they make my legs look. The hem where the waist band did rip the first time I put one of them on nut other that that it's a great product. Also, you can see panty lines, so please only wear G-strings, thongs, or no panties at all!

  • Super quick delivery with Prime.
Ordered for my son who is moving up to college level. I don't know anything about reading music. It was exactly what his instructor wanted him to get.
