I bought this as a gift for my 16yr old daughter who loves music (especially string instruments) and putting together advanced lego sets. She loved this! The finished product looks great and detailed, and it doesn't look like flimsy junk. From what I observed is that as she was putting it together, there are several tiny pieces and tools, so you need to be patient and careful. I remember looking at the instructions, and at first quick glance, they looked complicated to me.... but she completed it in afew hours without any struggles or complaints. (Not sure if I would have!). The finished product is a great piece, and I didn't realize it was actually a working wind-up music piece as well. However, it is not a toy, and would not recommend this for much younger children. I do plan on buying a few more of these in the future as gifts though. ... show more

Love the Rokr products. This one was a fantastic build. Intricate and precise yet not overly complex. Sounds fantastic and the movement is very elegant. Recommendation for any future readers, use the wax and make sure things are tight but not overly tight. Works extremely well. Great for the price.

    • Fun for a First Timer
The media could not be loaded. As this was a first time building something like this, it took me about 10 hours. Instructions are fairly straightforward but you must follow closely or you’ll have issues in later steps. I also think I tightened a few gears a bit too much since the final operation is slightly “clunky”. I was careful to wax the gears when the instructions called for it. I was impressed with the durability of the parts and used a small hand file to removed the “burrs” from each piece after I removed them from the laser cut sheets. All in all I’m really happy with the end results and would encourage anyone to try this for their first kit. Not only was it fun to assemble, it looks great and functions quite nicely! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I would tell someone - go slow (it’s not a race), test every time you put a new gear on. Use more wax then you think you should to keep the gears smooth. Pay attention to the directions ( I had to take the base book apart and turn it around cause I didn’t notice the holes didn’t line up with the very bottom), frustrating. Keep opps gel prescience glue on hand things will break that do not have duplicate pieces for. Excellent gift idea would recommend to anyone. Obviously it took longer for me to assemble because I painted and stained parts as I went. But that is me- you do you make it a memory you cherish each time you see it. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Very tough build. Not for beginners. There is no room for error on this one. Especially with the small pieces. Almost gave up a few times and had to take a 2-3 week break from building because of hand pain. Good overall but wouldn’t recommend for beginners. final music box to instrument piece was a bit weird to fix. It keeps coming off. Have to operate delicately ... show more

We gifted this to my Aunt and cousin and they had too hard of a time putting this together so they asked a friend to help. If you are really good at puzzles this is for you, if not, probably get something a little easier. But when the puzzle was finished it was beautiful and played amazing music.

No kidding, I love to give scathing reviews of things that don’t cut the muster. But, THIS is unbelievable quality at a great price. I went overboard and stained each piece of the body and detailed the working parts with subtle colors. The quality of the wood, the detail of engineering, the in-depth plans, the final performance of the completed kit….phenomenal. Everyone who has seen it is amazed.
