  • Absolutely adorable! 10/10
Edition: Mose's Detective Agency
Wowza! Let me start out by saying that I'm new to miniature-making. This kit is amazing. All of the wooden bits are carefully cut and go together easily and the little details are awesome! Quick tips! - Buy a clear glue stick. The glue in the kit is good for most things, but the flat papers were difficult to do. - Have a box of Q-tips within reach. I can't recommend these enough for cleanup. - Do NOT use an alcohol-based glue. It destroys the finish on the tiny wooden pieces. - Get a tool kit with a knife, snippers, and a real pair of needle nose pliers. Those aren't in the kit and you'll need them. You might also need wire strippers. I didn't have any and had to improvise. - Have a sharp pair of scissors! I used them more than the exacto knife. - I also used a metallic gold marker instead of the tiny gold foils. My hands aren't that steady LOL - Glue all the big wallpaper/wall pieces first. They take a long time to dry. - This is more like a 1:24 scale, not 1:20. So. Construction. I REALLY struggled with a few pieces, but like I said, I'm new to making minis. The umbrella, the paper boxes, and the tie were all hard for me. The wiring was difficult too, but the instructions are great and I got it all figured out. My detective's light flickers sometimes, but eh. I also rearranged all of the bits and skipped the Sherlock Holmes-themed stuff. This kit is definitely NOT for younger ages. Some of the tiny bits need precision. The glue is very sticky and stringy, so watch out for that. I also worked on it over three days and didn't rush anything. I wanted it to look good. This was a great kit for a newbie like me. Overall, I absolutely LOVE this kit. I already ordered Simon's Cafe, and I'll probably be getting another one after that. The Magic Emporium sure is cute... :) ... show more

  • So much fun!
Edition: Becka's Baking House
This was so relaxing to work on, it took me a total of approximately 4 to 5 hours through various evenings after my baby went to sleep. I would recommend you buy this to work on for adults primarily unless you have a very patient kid. The pieces are small and some are delicate, there is so much detail that goes into these kits - it's lovely! This is my second kit, and I just bought my third one; no. 17 Café. ... show more

  • PLEASE READ THIS TO SAVE YOURSELF FRUSTRATION!
Edition: Cathy's Flower House
Straight to the frustration part, then a few more tips and tricks: Please use the included "map" of wooden pieces to make sure you are using the correct piece, and *that it is right side up!* I glued the floor decor paper, and all the completed pieces to the wrong side, and then the floor tabs didn't fit within the top frame slots (see last two pics). I had to Dremel off the tabs and glue that sucker in. I was sure the company just did it wrong, but when I went back to the piece map, I realized I had screwed up. It all worked out in the end! Other than that, it was very challenging, but do-able. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the numbering system on the bags, the piece map, and the instructions. Some tools that helped me: Extra glue, wooden toothpicks, miniature clothespins and small binder clips, a razor blade, fine tip needle nose pliers, scissors designed for paper crafts (really sharp, with a sharp tip), small wire snips, and a big needle or safety pin. Some of the flowers just didn't work for me (especially the roses), so I googled "miniature paper flowers", and got some great tips and ideas, and made a few substitutions. Requires 2 AA batteries. The black decorative edges of the greenhouse frame are just black cardstock, which is *extremely* difficult to fold because of size. You might want to consider some kind of narrow craft tape instead. Overall, this was a fun and challenging project. It took me about 40 hours to complete. ... show more

  • Clever, Challenging, and Fun -- But One Big Defect (update!)
Edition: Cathy's Flower House
I've enjoyed assembling this kit. The plants are quite realistic and cleverly designed. The materials are of good quality. The furniture and other wooden pieces are precisely cut so that they fit together correctly. The instructions are in English and in color, so they are pretty easy to follow, even if some of the steps are tricky to accomplish. I did end up needing more white glue than was supplied to finish. I used my own X-Acto knife and went through three or four blades to get precision cuts throughout the project. I do admit to "plant building fatigue" after making the first eight or nine. I skipped to the end of the plants and discovered that the last half dozen were really simple, so I did those, then it wasn't so bad to finish the complicated ones. The kit doesn't get full stars from me because the electric switch for the light is broken. I tested the lamp without it and it's fine, but when I wired in the switch it doesn't light up. I've emailed the seller. If they send me a replacement switch I can upgrade my rating. UPDATE: The seller responded quite promptly saying “I’ll send you a replacement.” A few days later, I received another complete kit. Of course the seller doesn’t have just the switch component, I realize that, but I was still surprised. In any case, I took the switch from the new kit and tried it with the assembled kit. No good. What? The instructions are clear on which lamp lead to connect to which switch lead. On impulse, I reversed them. The lamp came on. The problem was the instructions, not the switch. I did not have the time to try this with the old switch, I just put it into the new kit and finished the first one. And now to my final issue and the reason for four stars. As someone else points out here, the greenhouse doesn’t fit into the base correctly. The bottom of the house has wooden tabs that fit into wooden slots on the base. But the did not align on mine. It’s possible they might if you take great care to check for this while gluing the house together. I simply used glue rather like grout, running a thick line of it around the entire base of the house. ... show more

Love this assembly, very quick and easy great for someone just getting into miniature builds. Read directions carefully, because it is mostly illustrations. States there is not a lot of gluing, but I found assembly more manageable by gluing a lot of the pieces. Loved the finished project.
