This is such a lovely, delicate, and unusual necklace! As an amateur astronomer with treasured memories of countless nights beneath the stars with my telescopes, this piece very much called out to me. The "opal", I'm sure, is man-made, as are the crystals in the crescent moon charm, but both the chain and clasp are marked S925, which should mean that they are solid sterling. If so, it is a quality blend of fine and costume jewellery. Aesthetically, it is beautiful: too small and delicate to be considered a statement piece, this still has a definite presence and a look that will work for a wide range of age groups. The extender chain gives it the ability to move from a choker to a longer length, which makes it far more versatile than it would be otherwise. The chain does want to tangle, so be mindful of where and how you store this between wearings. I love it, and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who loves the stars! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This little North Star stunner will be sure to please! Pros: Gorgeous opal-good color and flash. Cubic zirconia has good sparkle and are nice and white-not yellowy. The attached chain length adjuster is nice. Good strong clasp Marked 925 (sterling silver). The design of the North star and moon is beautiful. Cons: Arrived with a very difficult to remove tangle in the chain-took about 10/15 minutes to figure out how to detangle. The chain itself is VERY fragile. I wouldn't wear this to sleep, swim, play sports etc due to the delicate chain. Some may consider it a negative that the moon is attached to the chain and immovable, and the North star can slide freely, which may cause it to end up constantly bumped next to the moon, looking like one joint moon and star clump. This necklace is surely pretty, and will make a nice gift for an older teen, young adult, or woman. Wear with caution as far as your activity/lifestyle, due to the delicate chain. My daughter plans to put this necklace through a daily wear test, and I will update if anything changes. The 4 star vs 5 star review is due to the tangled chain upon arrival, and the delicate chain. My daughter received this as a gift and within a month the opal fell off and is lost forever. She is very upset. Be hesitant when purchasing as this might happen to you as well.
