    • Really great idea, and inexpensive
I have Geckos. both plastic and aluminum, and tried out a lesser brand here on Amazon that I ended up returning because it simply didn't work. For higher wind situations I likely would go with the Gecko, just because it clamps pretty firmly. But for more normal working conditions they work surprisingly well. Unlike the Gecko, these lock you into a set reveal. On the house I live in now I wanted the Hardie beaded siding, but at the time that only came as an 8 1/4" width. Yet I only wanted a 6" reveal. The Gecko worked fine for that with their significant adjustment capability. These would not have worked. However, most stick with the 1 1/4" overlap suggested by Hardie, and for that these work surprisingly well. And they are fast. And they are so cheap that I can easily buy another pair, since I find a 12' board has a very slight sag in the middle and I could pop in a third one in the middle. With the Gecko that all takes longer. These are so easy to attach it takes almost no time at all. I wasn't sure what to expect, since this particular brand is the cheapest available. But it hung on the top edge of the previous row with no problem. It is a little flexible, but where the board sits it is more than firm enough. And it has to have some flexibility because to remove it you push down on the center retainer and then rock it up off of the piece it is sitting on. If I were a DIYer or weekend warrior I would not spend the money on a Gecko. These work fine as long as you stick to a standard reveal. And these are faster and far cheaper. Plus, no moving parts, other than the tab you depress to release the gauge. And not that it is a biggie, but these do come with a pair of work gloves - cementboard siding really can abrade your skin after a while.
