Update: after breaking in these skates and changing out the stock bearings, I’m giving them 5 stars. They are comfortable, responsive and stylish. I’ve been skating on them for about a month (every other day for an hour or more) and love them. Who cares about a nylon plate? If I want to do park skating, I’ll worry about that then. Initial impressions- I grew up skating for hours on toy quality skates on our sidewalk and occasionally some rentals at the rink, so I am nowhere near a skate snob. When my kids asked to get into skating, I originally decided to go with Impalas for the $100 price point. While my foot technically fit, I knew immediately that they wouldn’t work. The pressure from that boot was painful to the point that I couldn’t wear them for more than ten minutes before I was packing them up and asking for a refund. These were my second choice. A higher price, for sure, but the quality seemed better and sizing was more straightforward. (I typically wear a women’s 9.5 and ordered an 8.) Right out of the box there was a significant difference between these and the Impalas. There was some stiffness in the boot but nothing overly pinched or felt painful. A few adjustments to the wheels and trucks and I was happily rolling away with my daughter. It will require a break-in period to get rid of that initial stiffness but they are comfortable and responsive to movement. One star off because I would have liked a metal plate for the price point. But given that I have no intention of hitting the skate park anytime soon, these are going to be more than enough to get me out at the local rink and hike/bike trail. It’s a great skate for someone like me that has wide feet. I could FEEL the difference as far as quality goes with these skates. I say this to say… if you are a beginner skater, even if you don’t buy this skate… think about the long term investment. Think about the quality of the boot or shoe with as well as safety gear. Beginners I would strongly advise a skate that has quality wheels as well as support for the foot as a whole and ankle support as well. Whether you buy these skates or not…I just wanted to post that information as a beginner myself. I’m happy I purchased these skates because for me my feet feel good while I’m wearing them. My first pair of skates were impalas and compared to these skates IT IS A UPGRADE Like OMMMG!!! You will have to break these in but after a few days they are great! The toes stops are adjustable. Mine didn’t come with a tool to adjust them so I went to lowe’s and purchased a 15/16 wrench 🔧 and that did the trick! Maybe think of purchasing toe guards. The materials are quality as can be expected from Riedell. The price point and construction of this skate is great for a beginner starter skate or for something fun to add to your collection if youre a seasoned skater. I suspect it will hold together and perform far better than other entry level, synthetic material boots. I was attracted to the bright color combos to add to my own collection of black, brown and white Riedells however I don't want to go through the process of breaking in this exceptionally stiff boot. I am returning and will consider Riedells custom color lab for a future purchase. ... show more

I returned it. I think if a WIDE width was available, it would have been great. And leather will stretch, sure sure, but it HURT.

I bought these for my wife to replace a pair of vintage white Riedell’s ..that she has had from the ‘80s… These are high-quality skates.. she loved the fit and the way their classic look combined with the bright colors available today… She has used them a couple of times and they seem fine🤷🏽♂️👍🏽… I will update my review here if there are any problems in the future… Highly recommend… Good luck! Let me start by saying that I'm a 49 year old father of 3 and was not expecting to catch the roller skating bug after all these years but our family caught it together and it has been so much fun. Now, about the skates, they are amazing. We skate a few days per week now and these skates have vastly improved my time on wheels. The boot is solid but comfy with lots of support. I've never had a blister and they came very much ready to use. The wheels have great grip on the artificial floors as well as outdoors. The trucks are great abs the entire skate just feels like quality. I'm now a Riedell fan-boy. These skates were the perfect choice for me.
