  • Old Testament
Size: 11 Color: Oro Legacy
Ok, let's begin by stating what these are NOT. These are NOT comfortable, stand on your feet all day, hard construction work boots. There are hundreds of other options I would encourage you to try if you are looking for a true, modern work boot. Modern soles will last longer. Modern insoles will be more comfortable. Steel toes will protect you. Certain soles will be rated for electrical safety, etc. These are NOT those boots. So what are they? They are old school. They are what your grandfather would have bought in the downtown department store in the 50's. If they were a Biblical verse, they would be Old Testament. They are leather construction, leather lined toe, leather insole boots with an outer sole that can be replaced when needed. This is a hard, tough boot that WILL take time to mold to your foot. Buy something snug with room in the toes and let them destroy your feet for a short while. It will pay off. Mine were a tad snug, but already feel pretty good out of the box and get better each day. I typically wear an 11.5 to 12 in most shoes. I saw these ran large and went with an 11. Pretty perfect fit for me. If you know what you want and have time to try 2 or 3 pairs on, that's fine. If you are unsure and want it done right, find a good local retailer and purchase them there. You are paying retail for their expertise and assistance. Also, these are made in the USA and you are paying a premium for that. I've also seen a few reviews where people complain about the sole wearing out too fast. That doesn't surprise me at all. They're pretty soft on the edges and don't look like they would hold up under a lot of abrasive surfaces under your feet. I plan on swapping these out as soon as I wear them down. You could go with a harder wearing sole at that point and have boots that will last years until the next sole is needed. The uppers alone are worth the price for the quality of construction. They are made from a beautiful leather with a nice hand. They can be cleaned and reconditioned over the years. This is not a leather sneaker styled like a boot and then farmed out to the lowest bidder. This is an old school, handmade, hard wearing leather upper that will definitely last longer than the stock soles and most likely outlast the replacement soles as well. Also, some people got very old boots, possibly even factory seconds. Different sellers have different items. I got very lucky with a good price on boots that were only a couple of months old. If you get a pair that are years old, or have some issues, well that's what prime returns are for. ... show more

  • Make sure you check the date on the label inside the tongue
Size: 11 Color: Briar Oil Slick
The intent of my review is to make buyers aware of what to look for if and when you order these Red Wing Heritage boots from Amazon. I'm normally a size 12 or 12.5 in normal shoes and also have a removable orthotic footbed that in place in all my shoes due to my high arches. I ordered 2 pairs of Red Wing Heritage Moc 6" boots in Briar Oil Slick from Amazon in size 11.5 and 11. I recently purchased a pair of the Red Wing Heritage chukkas boots in briar oil slick and the 11.5 fit me perfectly. I liked the chukkas so much I ordered the 6" boots. When I purchased the chukkas, the person at the Red Wing Store showed me on the tag on the inside of the tongue of the boot that my chukkas were made on "10/15" - essentially since I purchased the chukkas in December, they were made 2 months prior. The 6" moc boots in size 11.5 arrived first from Amazon and when I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was how the boots looked "broken in" and the leather was faded, dried out, and old. The first thing I did was look at the label on the tongue and noticed the date was 2011 - these boots were almost 5 years old! Yet Amazon was selling them as "new." I tried the boots on, just to get a gauge on size and found the 11.5s to be too big. So I returned them. However, if they had fit, I would have certainly complained to Amazon for trying to sell me a new pair of expensive Red Wing boots that were obviously old and not up to any sort of Red Wing standards. Buyers - be aware of this issue and make sure you check the date the boot was made on the tag inside the tongue - the date is on the lower, right part of the boot below the model number. It's one thing if the boots are a few years old and still look brand new, but the boots Amazon sent me were definitely sub-par. 2 days later the size 11 6" moc boots arrived and I wasn't sure what to expect. I opened the box and immediately inspected the boots for quality and the date they were made. Fortunately, the date was "10/15" so I was sure these were recently made. While the boots looked as if someone had tried them on before, I could tell the size 11 was perfect for me and the boot fit great. The color of the briar oil slick along with the crepe sole looks amazing. I've been wearing them around the house for about a week now and I hate having to take them off. Every time I wear them they get more and more comfortable. I think of them as more comfortable than my favorite pair of running shoes, but the Red Wings provide far more support. I am very happy with the 6" moc boot and actually find them easier to break in than my chukkas. Once you decide on a color(s), and once you find your fit, I think just like my you will be sold on Red Wing Heritage boots. I am using these for wearing in the office, out in the field (construction), and for style around town. ... show more

  • Great Boots
The boots arrived today and instantly went on my feet, five hours latter and a three mile walk I took them off without a bit of discomfort or pain from the start they fit like a old friend not something that needs to be broken in and hope they fit latter. After nearly sixty years with Red Win Shoes having feet that were hard to fit since a child I learned long ago to get a fitting first then the shoes. I really recommend not going by your tennis shoe size and try and transplant that to an American Boot bought on the internet. Go to a dealer get fitted, see the shoe, feel the shoe then buy where you want. These boots I received were made 12/16 they are not 2nd's they had their inspection cert signed by Debra and had none of the markings the 15 or so factory 2nd's I have owned ( a small hole at the top of the tongue or a saw tooth area on the inner fold of the tongue) telling a dealer that someone had changed returned boots. The only reason I could see why Amazon marked these down is that they had previously been sent out and the left boot had been tried on while the box was beaten and tattered the boots were flawless and the garbage did not mind a beat box. If you want comfort and support especially on cement you can't go wrong and while the soles won't last forever they will be comfortable and can be replaced even to another style that will wear longer. Besides they look great weather you are old waiting for that Trout to bite or young waiting for the Red Head to notice you. ... show more
