  • Business success requires the ability to scale, this book will teach you how
You ever pick up one of those books that you can't put down until you've finished it? This is one of those books. I've been following Ryan for a while on Twitter (@theryanking) and have always found his threads to be informative, actionable, and very valuable. And Ryan's experience of creating meaningful messages with a 280-character limit shows in how well this book is presented. There is no fluff, filler, or noise in this book. In fact, after a few pages, I stopped using the highlighter because I was highlighting everything, it's that good and dense with actionable information for you to build your own unicorn organization. I did not realize that what was stopping my wife and me from growing our little in-house business wasn't our ability to be of service, it was our lack of ability to recruit and scale ourselves to include others in our vision, Ryan showed me how and I'm looking forward to following his advice. ... show more

  • an OK read.
this was an OK book. I was hoping for something deeper though, particularly given that I've been following Ryan on Twitter for some time now and have enjoyed the quality of his posts. In contrast, this book tends to make mostly obvious statements, without going nearly as deeply in terms of what mental mechanisms to use when interviewing/hiring, what best-practice steps to use in the recruiting progression, etc. I thought that the information the book offered was mostly executional and needed deeper recruiting pillars to sit on, which Ryan for some reason didn't talk about (I am sure, Bolt has developed such deep recruiting practices, in order to be as successful as it has been.) On the other hand, the book does offer a decent a-b-c of how to get going recruiting-wise. I particularly enjoyed the section where Ryan discussed specific practices on how to convince new hires to join a smaller and less known company when competing with FAANG offers, etc. All in, there is value in this book; unfortunately, my expectations were much higher, having been exposed to Ryan's content previously. ... show more

  • A battle-tested checklist for real world results!
This is a checklist of all the things to do to build a phenomenal recruiting machine. There is nothing here that will blow you away or surprise you. And that's the point. Great recruiting is simply following the steps ... all of them. And Ryan lists every one of them in this short book. Now the hard work begins ... putting each of these steps into action. At least now (once you've read the book), when you do all the steps, and they're hard and time-consuming (which they are), you won't be asking yourself "Are these really necessary and worthwhile?" You'll know that the answer is "Yes!" ... show more

  • crystal-clear primer on recruiting at scale
Just finished reading Ryan Breslow's new book on recruiting—highly recommended, a crystal-clear primer on recruiting at scale! Recruiting is one of the most important things you'll do as a leader: I'm among those who're obsessed with finding the best talent for my teams. Thanks to Ryan for open-sourcing the secrets! If you're hiring too, look no further, read this to build a world class team and go change the world! ... show more

  • Disappointing
Although he talks a lot about the mechanisms of recruiting, 50% of the book is mostly emailed templates or examples. I was expecting more advice/views about a recruiting strategy. Now that I've read it, I understand why it's incomplete and it's because is a book from a founder (not a recruiter) to other founders. I've been working as a recruiter for the last 10 years and I could definitely write a better book. ... show more

  • Best book on recruiting
Ryan is a smart guy and he lays out an easily duplicatable recruiting system. It's easy to see why his company attracts and retains top talent. He does simple things nobody else does really well to attract the right people.

  • Easy and Enjoyable Read, Super Actionable and Unique
Perfect timing as I'm getting ready to begin scaling recruiting for a new startup. Despite the fact that I'm a serial entrepreneur whose done this a half dozen times, I still found a surprising amount of actionable tactics and strategies. I ended up developing our recruiting and hiring process in large part from this book, which by the way is amazing because you can read it in an afternoon. ... show more

  • Strong tactical guide to hiring
This book is all meat and potatoes recruiting advice. Thankful for Ryan sharing his insights from scaling unicorns. The tactical guidance is going to be immediately applicable in my hiring.
