  • Great bike for basic training before investing in a gas unit.
Bought for my soon to be 7 year old for Christmas 2014. This arrived very quickly and was a breeze to assemble. Per the instructions I charged over night and then tried it out myself to make sure there was no issues with "Santa's toy". I'm 200 pounds and it carried me fine for the short time I rode it. I was more concerned about the brakes working properly, and the disc brakes front and rear do just fine. I then hid it and let it charge till Christmas day. When my son saw it, he flipped out and was so happy. I also looked at the Honda CRF50 but this bike was $350, the Honda was $1100! I figured let's see how his skills develop before buying hi a gas powered bike. My son took to it just fine and I predict this MX 500 filling the gap between a real gas bike for the next 1-2 years. I plan to skip the CRF50 and go straight to the CRF 70 in a couple years. This MX500 is very solid and so far has been rode several hours with no problems. By the time the battery indicates low on the handle bar monitor, my son is ready for a break. It charges back to full charge in a couple hours and off he goes again. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to expose their child to two wheels without the gas motor investment. I really believe it'll bridge the gap between the intimidation of a gas bike and make it less scary once the child switches to gas. Love it. Nothing but good things to say so far... • My 9yo son LOVES this thing
First of all, get the full face helmet to go with it. My son, Cade has ridden this thing every day since his birthday 2 months ago. Although their lawyers have rated this thing for 14 and older.. no 14 year old is gonna ride this thing. It is definitely for younger kids. It looks just like a little 50cc motorcycle and goes well on pavement and grass. It will go 18-20mph with my son on it. The battery life seems very adequate. The knobby tires are great. They look like motorcycle tires. Assembly was quite easy. It is mostly assembled. I just had to pop on the front wheel and a couple more simple things. On ours, we couldn't get the front brakes to work. His back brakes stopped him just fine. I called the company and they sent me a new front brake assembly no hassle. My son rides this daily and he lets his friends ride it. I have ridden it and I weigh nearly 200 pounds. It seems to hold up well. If it dies by the end of the summer. I will still consider it a great buy. He has thoroughly enjoyed it. Two hundred fifty bucks on Amazon with no shipping. I will update on how this thing holds up this summer. Your kid will love this thing. Just keep an eye on them, 18 to 20 mph can cause a pretty good crash. Do NOT let them ride without a helmet! ... show more

  • Great Beginner Dirt Bike
I bought this bike for my 8 year old son for Christmas last year & he is still riding it just about everyday! The first time he rode it I was worried it was too big & heavy but he got right on it & took off. After seeing the smaller ones at the store I'm very glad we bought the MX500 because it seemed just right for him & the others looked too small. He knows he cannot ride it through water & takes care not to leave it out in the rain but rides it all over our hilly 16 acres with no problems. This bike is made very well & zips around fairly fast (which scared me at first but now I feel confident that he knows how to handle it). Definitely, invest in a good helmet. This bike has many pros: excellent quality, it is quiet, does not tear up your terrain, has plenty of pep!!! The battery only lasts about a hour but that has been plenty long enough for him. This is an excellent beginner bike that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to get their child ready for a real dirt bike. ... show more

  • The best money I spent
The Razor MX500 is the best money I spent. It is well worth it and my 8 year old son loves it (not to mention all the kids on the block as well). I was alittle hesitant on buying it, because the product reads ages 14+ (which is just for Razor policy safety reasons to cover their butts if someone got injured). It is so easy to assemble, about 20 min and it is pretty fast, about 15-17 miles like is reads on description. On a hill, forget it, it goes even faster, so I definitely suggest a helmet at all times. The charging time is great and my son and his friends go on it all day without the charging light indicater, which turns yellow, going on. I am not sure why I read bad reviews on it, but this bike is amazing. I even went on it and I am about 165lbs (the max recommended weight is 175lbs). My neighbors kids loved it so much, that I believe there will be two more of these purchased very soon on my block. ... show more
