This was only a little more expensive than a non-wifi timer from Home Depot, and is well worth it in my books. I used this for a vacation property that we sometimes rent out as an airbnb, so we might not be there for several weeks, and we just had new privacy trees planted so we need to keep those babies watered. Why did I feel the need to switch from a regular timer and find a wifi solution? Last year we had a normal (non-wifi timer) but it rained a lot so it was really a waste of water and $$ on our water bill. Being able to both check the weather and manually delay watering and/or set an automatic rain delay when rain is detected in the zip code is very cool, and I get peace of mind that it IS working when I get the notifications to my phone each time the irrigation turns on and off, so I don't need to be concerned about my trees or second guess that something has gone wrong while I am out of town and have nightmares that my new trees are slowly withering away... It is obviously also a win environmentally. Following the instructions, it was super easy to set up and get on the wifi. Less than 5 minutes. The app itself is not perfect but pretty clean and easy to use overall. Setting up the auto rain delay was a little more complicated (and I think it helps if you understand if/then logic - it was clearly designed by programmers and I think could be a little more user friendly, but just READ THE INSTRUCTIONS [unlike my other half] and you'll be ok.) The unit itself seems to have a good seal with no leaks when it's screwed on the spigot and can withstand the pressure of the water from the spigot (with one note - see below). We've had it attached and going three times a week for 3 months and the battery still shows full, so this should last us the full summer at least. The product also came with a free 5-year warranty if you register it. I don't think it says this in the product description on Amazon, but when it arrived the box included a card with an extended 5-year warranty. (In contrast, the non-wifi timer I got from Home Depot for $40 last summer has already had half the screen already stop working...) Overall, a really good experience with this product and would highly recommend! Just just three things worth noting for potential users: 1. I have this attached to a splitter -- one half of the splitter feeds this timer (and it's open all the time), and the other half of the splitter can be turned on if someone needs the hose. When we first bought this, after a few weeks, the pressure of the hose blew the timer off the splitter so the spigot was going full blast with nothing attached! We are grateful our neighbor turned it off. I replaced the original plastic splitter with a brass splitter that has a deeper thread and we were back in business with no issues since. 2. I sometimes get random alerts to my phone which don't relate to actual activity on the timer. I contacted customer service and they were very responsive and came back to me within hours. They suggested offloading the app and dis/reconnecting the timer hub from my account which should debug it. Waiting to see if this does the trick, but it's not the worst thing in the world in the scheme of things. Not worth NOT buying this product if this is the worst trouble I've had. 3. There is no option to set the timer for every second day, only specific days of the week. This means that there will be at least one time a week when the trees get watered two days in a row or have two days with no water. Again, a bit annoying, but not the worst. Based on feedback from the customer service people, it sounds like this is being addressed in future versions of the product/app updates, but again I wouldn't consider this enough of a reason not to buy this product. I rarely write reviews, but after doing quite a lot of research on wifi timers and relying heavily on the reviews, I thought I should add my experience so I hope this helps others! ... show more

I got my 1 zone wifi Rainpoint water timer the same day I ordered it from Amazon. It is the end of our watering season hear in Minneapolis, we've had a good freezer already, but we had a beautiful weekend in the 70s so I used the wifi valve timer to water our many trees one last time. It was easy to setup and use. We are in the middle of a severe dry period and one last watering seemed like a good idea. We have a Google Mesh wifi system with 3 mesh transmitters. I downloaded the Rain point App with no problem on my android phone and set up an account. It took a couple of tries to get the wifi to recognize the Rainpoint wifi hub but it did. I was a little worried because Google Mesh system is dual band 2 and 5 MHz, but the hub and then the valve and socket all showed up. I played with the programming options but will go into them in depth a bit more next spring and report back. I have set up 4 zones in the front of our house and 3 in the back. I have used electronic programmable timers but this is my first wifi timer. I have 5 drip and soaker irrigation zones and two lawn Sprinkler zones on the timers. I currently have two new and one-1 year old Rainpoint dual zone timers and an older single zone timer that I used this year. In the past I've had Orbit timers and found that they last from 2 - 5 years . This new wifi timer is something I had hoped would be available to replace the self programmed timers. It is much easier to adjust the timer parameters on a phone then on a timer on a hose spigot. There are also multiple new parameters (rain, soil moisture, etc) that can be factored into the timing program. I am glad the system is expandable and hope to eventually have all of the zones on the system. I will update my review next spring when our garden season resumes. So far, I've been very pleased with all of the timers I've gotten from Rainpoint. They work well, are reasonably priced and the warranty and email support are great. My gardening is very dependent on watering timers so I will be updating this review with feedback on the timers. Update.12/19/2022: I added a second timer to my rainpoint system. The wifi connection was straightforward and works as expected with no problems. I'm looking forward to next Spring to try out all the controls.
