  • Works great however warranty registration issues
Size: 4 Bay - 2G RAM Style: TS-x51D
Before I praise QNAP for my good experience, I will point out that the seller BecTech Global imported these QNAP's from France. This means you are not eligible for the extended warranty if you purchase this in a different region (like in the USA). I opened a ticket with QNAP for more information on eligibility. Awaiting a response. I was gifted a TS-451 that was 9 years old. I used some harddrives and ram I had laying around to get it going. Then I ftp'ed all my data over. Plex setup really easily. The containers took some trial and error but I got Sonarr running and Deluge+VPN running in separate containers. Everything is great. Things are running well. After a week of smooth sailing I took down my old Linux server that was hosting Plex and didn't have any major issues. 4 weeks later it stopped working. No status lights; just the fan running at full speed. I'm guessing it failed because it didn't like the random memory I had laying around instead of a recommended ram. I read that I could just take my harddrives and move them in the same sequence to another QNAP device. I didn't hesitate to order another one. It arrived and I put in my drives in the exact same sequence and started it up. EVERYTHING WAS THERE. Every single setting and configuration was in tact. I didn't have to rebuilt any of my containers, reset any passwords. Nada. It just had to do a disk check and we are back in action. I am having a minor issue that I didn't have before with Plex. When I try to download a movie or tv show to my iPad in the Plex app, it only works for m4a files. MKV files will download but never play. I'm guessing it's a transcribe issue but I never had this issue when I was running Plex on Ubuntu. All in all I am now locked into the QNAP ecosystem. I can never go back to anything else. Love the way this is setup. ... show more

  • Received better item them anticipated
Size: 2 Bay - 2G RAM Style: TS-x51D
It was a toss up between buying this NAS or the Synology 220+. QNAP was running a promotion where these NAS where only $239 which is just about $100 cheaper than the MSRP. I noticed the only ones that were on sale were the every so slightly older models with the J4005 chip boosting to 2.7GHz. It was still a fine choice and is why I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and it was the model with the slightly newer J4025 chip which boosts to 2.9GHz. Getting a slightly better object than anticipated is always a plus. I bought the 2gb model and ordered a 8gb (2x4gb) kit off of Amazon from Timetec (CL17, 2400) and it has been working great. My unit, now fully operational, uses just over 2gb of RAM and would clearly bottle neck if having any other operations running. At the moment I am running Homebridge & PiHole. I populated both drives with 2TB WD Red Plus Drives. I ran these in a RAID 1 setup which mean both drives will have duplicate information on them so if one drive fails no data will be lost. Once all setup only about 1.5TB is actually usable. Last but not least it is very clear that QNAP has issues with ransomware. If you're not too familiar with this please do some due diligence and search for "QNAP Deadbolt" and ensure you protect yourself. I don't run any of the cloud features and keep my device only accessible to my LAN and if need access while away I'll use a VPN to get into my network. ... show more

  • Been trying to do a DIY Home Surveillance system for years, in hours...done with QNAP and QVR!
Size: 2 Bay - 4G RAM Style: TS-x51D
As a sorta-geek who has been in the (computer) storage world for 2.5 decades, I'm impressed with QNAPs simple UIs and features you'd expect in higher end storage. I've struggled to build a home NVR and found the combo of QNAPs NAS and QVR Pro free software to be the solution. I easily connected my array of 720 and 4k cameras and utilized my existing POE switch. In minutes we were up and running. I also undersized my storage using 4TB drives and found it super elegant to upgrade to 14TB in a few clicks. Don't hesitate if you are looking to integrate modern HW and software with existing IP cameras! ... show more

  • software is outdated, device is loud
Size: 2 Bay - 2G RAM Style: TS-x51D
interface is very confusing, and nonlogical. setup of this device is truly adventure - looking for options which are hidden like treasure boxes is sometimes hit and miss game. Sometimes they are described in strange way, sometimes hidden under line of text without any mark that there it is something important. software per se is not working as expected, compared to synology which i have used earlier it is simply outdated. synchronizing files sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. qumagie is a mess - no matter how much time you spend cataloging faces it will always mess it again. even the basic functionality like fan setup is not working properly. one star for backup/restore it works. ... show more

  • Easy Setup If…
Size: 2 Bay - 4G RAM Style: TS-x51D
My 5 year old Qnap died. I bought this one to replace it. Since my 2 drives were ok, I plugged one in just in case it wanted to reinitialize. It didn’t. What it did was find all my data and accounts. All I had to do plug the other drive in and install a couple of apps. I was very happy!

  • I'm mixed on this one. Definitely sound better on paper than actual performance.
Size: 4-Bay 4GB RAM Style: NAS
Definitely not for the inexperience person who only use a computer to browse the web. Clunky and sluggish user interface with way too many menus to navigate to, just to do something basic.

  • Frustrated due to outdated/missing root certificates (edited, not any more, issue fixed!).
Size: 4-Bay 4GB RAM Style: NAS
Bought this new QNAP TS-451D2 to replace my unsupported QNAP TS-269L NAS thinking it will address an issue with root certificates. Well, guess what? I'm having the same issue with the root certificates and the is no way to update it unless you sort of 'hack' the QNAP OS and manually copy it to the correct directory. Keep in mind if you do this and reboot the NAS the working certificate get erased and you will need to manually copy it again. Update 12/31/2021 - After more extensive research I was able to fix the issue by using a 3rd party script installer (not recommended). Seems the issue is more a QPKG developer issue than a QNAP issue. ... show more
