  • This will definitely be the one you're looking for.
Color: Space Grey
Okay, first off; this thing looks absolutely gorgeous from the pictures, holding it in real life felt amazing from the fact it's made out of aluminum and not to mention the build quality. But if it only looks pretty and doesn't get the job done.... what's the point, right? However, this hub looks pretty AND does what its supposed to do really well too. I've recently purchased an Air and was looking for the right hub that I wouldn't regret purchasing, this one certainly did not disappoint. The main selling point of it is it's appearance. It's light and compact form factor makes it easy to carry around, whether its in your pocket or laptop case. Also, and if you're worried about it scratching up your exorbitant machine, worry not because it comes with a synthetic leather storage case (image included). The hub attaches snuggly onto the two USB-C ports, eliminating almost any wobling or shakes. Moving on to performance. My Air was the 128GB version, so an external drive is a necessity. I attached my external SSD and tried transferring several MP4 files, so far the transfers didn't show any signs of stuttering or slowdown of any kind. iPhone charged normally through the USB 3 port, though I'm not sure about Android devices. One thing to keep in mind is that you will not be able to charge your machine by plugging it in into the USB-C port located on the center of the hub, that's because its only intended for data transfer. You can however, charge your machine by plugging it in into the port located on the end of the hub with the lightning marking on it. If you have a monitor with high refresh rates, you'll be able to achieve up to 120hz through HDMI cable. I'm not sure if it can go any higher than 120hz as I do not own a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to test, so I'll leave that for someone else to find out. Last but not least; is this hub worth it? In my opinion, yes. It does what I want and expect it to do, and its extremely easy to carry around plus it doesn't have the extension wire that gets in your way. This thing is literally the puzzle piece your MacBook is missing. Sure, there are some other options such as the ones offered by Anker, Satechi, Kingston and etc, but you can't beat the fact that this one comes with different variety of colors to match your machine. ... show more

  • Works like a champ! 2 Connected at Once!
Color: Space Grey
I purchased two of these trying to look for alternatives to an expensive docking station. I also have the 2018 MBP 15 with Vega 20 graphics so compatibility with the new MBP model is critical. These looked simple enough and seemed to have quality connection and ease of use according to other reviews. I was not disappointed! I snapped these babies in, plugged everything in that I needed and boom! Everything works great. I have a 1TB SSD external, 2-4K LG monitors, Scarlet 6i6 audio interface, USB type Microsoft mouse, and micro USB cable (for charing) all connected with plenty of ports to spare. The connections of the two USB-C plugs on each snap in snug and remain connected well. The color also matches pretty well with the space gray MBP color and I love the rounded edges to give a more polished look. If you're looking for more ports or just a possible dock alternative, I recommend this item 100%. ... show more

  • Works perfectly on M1 MacBook Air 2020, but be CAREFUL...
Color: Space Grey
I've been using this with an M1 equipped MacBook Air, and so far the experience has been very positive. All metal build quality and the finish and color matches the laptop closely. For reference, I have a Space Gray MacBook Air, and the Gray version of this adapter. They are very, very close in color, only off by a very slight shade at very particular angles, but close enough to pass as official! See pictures. I also like that Purgo hasn't chosen to brand the device with a huge ugly logo. The branding is only on the bottom of the unit while connected (to the left side), so kudos for maintaining the nice clean aesthetic. All this wouldn't mean a thing if it didn't work properly, of course. Thankfully in my tests so far, it has performed as expected. I'm able to easily connect USB flash drives, and external drive, power cable (on the clearly marked USB-C plug that supports power delivery) and did some imports from my SD cards into Adobe Lightroom, at the same speed (or faster?) than my full size iMac with a built-in SD slot. I haven't been able to test the HDMI out yet, but the cable that I have around my desk fits nicely. I'll update with test results if not as expected. Fit: It fits snugly into the ports on my MacBook Air, easy. I also like the small apple-style led light that shows that it is connected and powered. I imagine it would be more flush with the edge of a MacBook Pro, but sine I have the Air, the tapered chassis obviously is incongruent with the side of this adapter. Not a huge thing. In short, it's one of the best designed and priced devices in this category of adapters. Things to be AWARE of: I advise using an adapter like this while the laptop is on a stationary desk, and NOT in your lap. Reason is simple physics: It's a solid, inflexible block of thin metal protruding from the side of the laptop, connected only by the strength of two USB-C plugs to your computer. I can imagine a situation where you hit it with your knee, or try to lift the computer while it's connected to a phone or external hard drive, and the force of impact UP or DOWN will snap the USB plugs off in their ports. If operating from bed or couch is a regular thing, then it might be better to purchase an adapter that is more dongle-like, with some flexibility built-in. SD Cards: If you have this adapter connected to the LEFT side of your computer like I do (MacBook Air only has ports on the left) then you'll need to insert an SD card into the reader UPSIDE-DOWN, that is, with the metal contacts facing UP. You don't want to force it the other way and risk damaging your port or SD card. 4K Monitors/Gaming: It says in the description and in the instructions that are on the box: This only supports a 4k monitor output at 30Hz / ie: 30fps. So if you're trying to hook this up for some 4k gaming, it's going to top out at 30fps. USB ports and unplugging difficulty: The fit from my devices is so snug in these ports, which is great for security. But, that also means that when I'm trying to remove them, I also risk pulling the whole adapter off the laptop. So you have to hold the adapter against the laptop awkwardly while unplugging your device. That's important if you have multiple things connected at a time and only want to remove one device while the other ports are transferring data etc. Aside from those very minor (and somewhat obvious) caveats, this is a solid buy all around! ... show more
