    • Excellent feel, not greasy
I'd been using Nivea Sensitive shave balm for a lot of years. Excellent product... until they changed the formulation recently. The new stuff has a decidedly greasy feel and that led me to search for a decent replacement. I'd known about Proraso's balm but never tried it until now. I have to say that, while it is more expensive than Nivea's balm, I also think it is better. It has a scent but it is pleasant and very light. Since I bought this, I contacted Nivea who told me they were switching back to the old formula because of the complaints they'd received. I may try switching back to Nivea when this Proraso runs out. Or not. This stuff is very nice, not greasy, has a great feel and scent. If they really do bring back the old Nivea balm formula, I may simply switch back because it is way cheaper than the Proraso. That's the only down side I see for it. Proraso is otherwise a really fantastic shave balm. UPDATE: Nivea sent me coupons for 3 free bottles of their revised formula, which they claim is the old, non-greasy formula. Can confirm the replacement balm is like the old formula. Have to shout out to Nivea customer service for taking their customer's concerns seriously. Thank you, Nivea, for the replacements. I am still liking the Proraso balm very much but am down to the last of it. I'll use that up and switch back to Nivea. If the old Nivea doesn't work out, I have to say I'd switch permanently to Proraso. ... show more

    • Very nice product. Light and non greasy.
This is a very nice after shaving product. Very light cream which is completely absorbed in your skin in a matter of seconds. Leaves a refreshing scent which isn't overpowering but nicely pleasant. I also like the glass bottle and secure plastic lid. One of the nicer after shaving products I've ever used, and I'm 67 years old, so I've tried quite a number over the years. Highly recommended.     • Great aftershave, but I think the scent is a bit too subtle.
I've used several types of Proraso aftershave products. I like them all so far. My favorite is still the greenish-clear splash-on liquid aftershave. This is my first time with this balm. It goes on smelling a little weird to me, but that goes away almost instantly. I don't know how to describe the initial scent -- it's just a bit odd. I can't smell this on myself once it's dried. My wife tells me that it has a very subtle, nice scent. She can only smell it from up close, which might be a plus for some men. I prefer a bit more of a noticeable scent. This stuff doesn't sting at all, and is nice and soothing. It's not greasy at all either, which is a must for me. All in all, once this bottle is used up, I'll probably switch back to the other Proraso products I've used before. This one is too subtle smelling, and has the odd initial scent that I don't enjoy. I still think it's a great product though, and the scent may just be a matter of my personal taste. ... show more

Before I give out my opinion about the Proraso After Shave Balm, I have to say the following: I have been using the Nivea aftershave balm for quite some time and I can only say positive things about it, it's an alcohol-free formulation, it has a clean, mild scent, has a great, light consistency, feels great on my skin and has a great price. it's an all around great product, but the Proraso aftershave balm can make all of those things better. The Proraso balm has an elegant, citrusy fragrance that is not overbearing, it has better, heavier consistency than the Nivea, but still feels light on the skin, it applies clean and absorbs quickly and does not feel oily afterwards, my face feels clean and rejuvenated, and it takes care of any irritation inmediately. My only complaint is the price, I can get 3 niveas for the price of one proraso, but I will gladly spend 15 bucks for something that's going to do a great job soothing myr face after scraping it with a knife. I will buy this again without a doubt, I really recommend it. ... show more

I use many Proraso shaving products after reverting back to double edge razor (fed up with multi-blade gimmics at ridiculous blade refill cost). If u decide to whip out your (or your dad's) old Gillette (made in USA) double edge razor device (Highly recommend cleaning, adjusting, lubricating, & sterilizing by running through dishwasher sanitize cycle - do this first then other suggestions listed) Using Proraso products (this product - balm aftershave lotion, also use their refreshing clear after shave, their pre-shave conditioner and finally their tube shaving creams which provides a creamy rich lubricating foam and their regular soap type shaving cream tub - some are lightly scented some are for sensitive skin and some are enriched with protective and skin nourishing ingredients - used selectively for different weather and skin conditions - they help tremendously to avoid razor burn, dry or irritated facial conditions - like winter and a heavier beard after several days of beard growth. Their formulas are non irritating, and non-allergetic. Makes shaving with a really sharp blade - e,g, Feather Brand - easier and safer (less of a chance for razor burn, rash, dry skin). Used Properly your Face after a nice close double edge shave and Proraso Products is as soft & smooth as a baby's bottom. ... show more
