  • Excellent quality
Color Name: Silver
Top quality product! Used it to put a new GT mallet stem in an oldschool 1” fork and it worked very well. Mind you this is a 22.2 so I had to get it machined down to 21.1. It’d be awesome if it came in the two sizes. Other than that it’s a great product and value for money.

  • Make sure of your steerer tube size
Color Name: Silver
Only for 1" outer diameter steer tube and not 1-1/8" steer tube. 22mm so will not fit inside the 25.4mm inner diameter.

  • Easy solution to vintage issue.
Color Name: Silver
I bought an early 90's vintage very high-end steel bike frame. Turns out it is getting pretty difficult to find stems and handlebars in the 'old' specifications, without spending a ton of money. So, this riser allowed me to not only easily set up my bike, but use a modern handlebar & stem. So, very economical solution. Not too much heavier than traditional components, because I could use a much lighter modern handlebar. Not quite as sleek looking as traditional components, but quite acceptable. ... show more

  • Worked, with modifications
Color Name: Silver
I purchased this to update a mid 90's Cannondale M400 mountain bike. The stem fit into the head tube fine, but initially I was completely unable to get things tight -- the bolt just turned, and there was never any real tension. Upon further inspection I noticed that the included bolt is shorter than the one that came stock on the bike, and also that the little wedge piece at the bottom that expands to tighten the stem is smooth (pictured), whereas the one that came stock on my bike has ridges. I figured I would try to use the old bolt and wedge, and that surprisingly solved the problem. I've been on multiple rides and nothing is loose, so far. This could be an error on my part in terms of not ordering the right product, or in not knowing enough about my own bike, but the bottom line is that this didn't work for me out of the box. If I didn't think to mix in the old parts with the new I would have had to return this. I'm not entirely sure what sort of bike this does work for out of the box, but if you have an older Cannondale I wouldn't recommend ordering this unless you have the original parts to swap in. I would have spent more for a product made in the US, but as far as function and value for money it is hard to complain here. ... show more

  • Does the job, understand the size you need, assembly takes more work.
Color Name: Silver
This is a well-priced, good-looking aluminum adapter that lets you mount a 1 1/8" newer style stem on a bike with an older (or cheaper) 1" steering tube. Two things to pay attention to: 1. Make sure that you are buying the right size (as many buyers seem surprised.) When your bike has a "1 inch" steering tube, the shaft that fits inside the stem (i.e., your old stem or this new adapter) will be thinner, about 7/8"/22.2mm. If your old stem is 7/8"/22.2mm thick, your steerer is 1" and this adapter will fit. (Your steerer is measured on its outside, but you may not be able to actually see the tube on many bikes.) If the shaft of your old stem is thicker than 7/8"/22.2mm, your steerer is not 1". Also be sure that the thicker top part of the shaft (where you mount the new stem) is correct for your new stem. This adapter takes stems that are 1 1/8"/28.8mm, a common size (though some stems are larger or smaller.) 2. Unlike similar adapters, the top cap on this one is wider than the opening in your stem. You can't mount the adapter on the bike, then mount the stem on the adapter. Rather, you'll need to assemble the adapter and your new stem off the bike, then insert the combined unit into the steering tube. The payoff for your efforts is a cap that covers the joint between the stem and the adapter. That will likely keep water from seeping into your assembly and also looks more elegant. ... show more

  • Works perfectly! Wish I could give it SIX stars... but...
Color Name: Silver
This part installs into a 7/8" Internal Diameter tube (22.2mm) to convert your "old style" handlebar stem to a modern one. Older mountain bikes had those expanding style stems which limit your configurations and options for changing your bike around to fit you better or just to use modern components since there are FAR more options now. MAKE SURE you have a 7/8" tube on your bike... that's the most common size, but if you want to avoid a delay- measure it. I converted two of my "vintage" bikes with these stem converters so I could install adjustable angle stems. With so many options on the market now, prices are great and you can replace those aging, ugly stems or make that old bike fit better- in my case, I needed to raise the bars since I'm getting a bit older and need a more upright riding position. It's funny, the non-adjustable rusty Ritchey stem I replaced with this cost more than a new modern stem conversion, new adjustable stem AND new handlebars. Keep those older bikes on the road, the "technology" hype they use to try to sell new ones is more marketing hype than real benefits the average rider could ever notice. Buy a used bike for $300 that originally sold for $3000 and ride in style. :) ... show more

  • Almost perfect
Color Name: Silver
Let's clear some things up on this one. Yes, the top compression cap is separate and does come off. You will not be able to use a standard 1-1/8" compression cap on this because the bolt on this is bigger than a standard compression bolt for a 1-1/8" stem cap. The compression cap on this is wider than a standard compression cap by 2mm, it is too big to fit down into a compression cap recess on a stem.. why????? Who knows. This thing would be perfect if not for that. I will have to have it machined down to fit like a standard cap.. It is well made, I wish it didn't have the logo on the cap (get out your buffer) and I wish the cap was 2mm smaller to fit down in a compression cap recess. Not bad for the price, but needs mods to be perfect.. Has potential! Ha! ... show more

  • Higher rise than other brands
Color Name: Silver
These have a slightly higher rise than other brands above the minimum insertion line -- at least half an inch more than the other ones I have. If you want to get your handlebars higher, this is a good one to get.
