I am a long-time hair "picker", spending hours on hours pulling at my split ends. In my head, I was thinking it was better to get rid of the split ends by pulling on them to keep it from traveling up the hair strand. I was wrong. I was making a mess of my hair! In a panic, I decided to buy these to try to convert my bad habit into a "search and destroy" mission instead. I have since noticed a lot fewer split ends. These scissors have been pretty good for me, but I have already noticed dulling. I think these are okay but for good hair health, I might recommend a more expensive pair or maybe a frequent sharpening of these. I also noticed that for the comfort of my hands, I had to remove the grip rings in the handle. It was too tight on my thumb with the grip ring which is unfortunate. I'm 100% NOT a professional. I usually trim my hair with household scissors. I actually bought these to cut matted clumps out of a neighborhood half feral cat. The smaller matts cut out easily. The larger thicker one didn't. It didn't cut even a slice thru it. Theyre nice & lightweight but I have concerns they'd hold up to my use. I drop everything. Other concern is going thru anything thick. I guess if you cut hair like a professional then ok. If you cut like me, put your hair in a ponytail and chop maybe not. ... show more

The inner diameter of the thumb hole at its narrowest point, with the insert removed, is slightly over 3/4". I wear xlarge gloves and my thumb fits comfortably in the hole. The pair I received are sharp to the tip, easily cut hair and for the price you can't go wrong.
