    • My favorite dark pencil
This is the 6 to 8B pencil my art teacher recommended, so it was my baseline but I always liked it. Then I tried a different brand as I couldn't find this at the art store--this time I noticed the difference, not as smoothe. Personally I don't think any of the softer graphite pencils do well with electric sharpeners, and the actual best way to sharpen is with and exacto knife or a sharpener like Hovel, that peels from the side. But I don't have any problems with my $6 hand held regular pencil sharpener. So glad I could find this brand on Amazon! ... show more

My recent experience with the graphite pencils I ordered for school left me incredibly disappointed and frustrated. As an art student, I rely heavily on my supplies, and unfortunately, this particular batch of pencils fell far short of my expectations. The entire graphite core seemed to be extremely fragile and prone to breaking. No matter how carefully I tried to sharpen it, the pencil would repeatedly splinter into sections, rendering the graphite completely unusable. Good for just about anything, and smudges well. Only issues I have is that it is a little to soft and get dull super super quick. Not bad at all, but it's not as hard as you think.
