  • Compact and works well.
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
I have been a professional Geologist for over 40 years and this takes the uncertainty out of most gemstones. I do not use the included cord as I don't use the tester it that much. The 2 x AA Alkaline Rayovac batteries last quite a while (not included). I am very impressed. The scale is a bit small for my aged eyes, but that is what reading glasses are for. I believe that the device is made in Turkey and the quality is good. Mine did not come correctly calibrated, but I would have re-calibrated anyway and it is very easy to do. Brief directions are included, or I downloaded the 18 page version from the company website for my alter ego, a professional engineer. It seemed a little pricey, albeit I purchased it anyway. As it works, that is what really counts. I ordered the SmartPro SPGE-I Gem Eye I Gem and Diamond Tester Smart Pro first, but it did not work and they were unable to send a working one after returning it, so I bought this one and had no problems. ... show more

  • A bit of knowledge required…
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
Preface: So if you buy this, you need to have a basic knowledge of gemstones. This is not going to be the tester that is definitive if you don’t know anything about gemstones. I am not Certified in anyway, however I have a basic knowledge and this has got me a long way and using this. There are resources that you can look up including a color chart includes to help. As far as the machine itself goes, I am on my second one. I touched my first one with a large charge of Static electricity and I guess it fried it. It was approximately three years old and worked ok- I had to take the results with a grain of salt. It wasn’t very accurate. The second one seems to work better. They have to be calibrated quite frequently so make sure you learn how to do this. The needle will point to a set of gemstones, and it isn’t always the same even with the same stone so it can be a bit finicky and inconsistent on the readings. It is a handy tool to have to determine whether something is glass or gemstone though. It absolutely will not tell you whether something is created or natural. ... show more

  • HELPED DISCOVER FRAUD
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
I'm so glad that I finally got one of these. I cut gemstones and am always looking for raw and uncut stones. Many of my orders last year sat waiting until I could afford to purchase this machine. All my rubies, sapphires, emerald, citrine, aquamarine, topaz, and amethyst that I purchased from Amazon were ALL glass. I did test known samples with this tester and everything was accurate. I will even take this to rock shows and auctions now to be sure what I am getting is real before buying. ... show more

  • PROBE TORE APART
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
I had waited a while before I unboxed this tester... I was so excited to finally put it to use due to knowing I had some valuables and wouldn't be testing rhinestones. It worked great in the beginning, but from day 1 the cap of the probe either fell off constantly or was stuck on too tight. No happy medium! I just went to test a group of items and went to pull the cap off, and it tore the quote probe apart. I tried to needle it back in to no avail. It kept beeping due to jittingbinternal metal, but finally even stopped doing that because it then completely broke. I am so frustrated as I just looked at job much it was yo buy a new probe... $80! That's insane... now I'm going to either be forced to buy another probe or I have a useless piece of expensive machinery turned REALLY expensive paperweight! So sad and trying to jold on frustration. It was great for a couple months, but that turns out to be a very expensive 2 months with no benefit! I can only hope Presidium will make it right. ... show more

  • Owned it for over a year, still would buy it again.
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
I purchased this back in December 2022. I have used it moderately-somewhat heavy. There are specific stones it will confirm and then you gotta just gauge things. I absolutely would buy this again. So far, I have not needed to replace the pen. There's a lot of negative reviews about this product so I was quite skeptical at first, but I definitely don't regret this purchase at all. I would absolutely advise getting familiar with RI & SG because one testing method only to test your gems is ill-advised, especially with a machine that is limited in what it can test and confirm. I am very happy with this product. I think big points here are to make sure you are testing a flat surface of your stone (ideally the table) and be a little gentle. Keep the rubber cover on the pen at all times when not in use. Calibrate the machine regularly. Keep it clean. Clean your gems before you touch them with the probe. Keep your machine on a stable, flat surface. In my experience (which is still novice mind you), this is a great tool for testing in conjunction with other tests. My results have by and large been consistent. When they are off, I recalibrate and everything is back to consistency. ... show more

  • Refurbished or Just defective?
Color: Presidium Gem Tester Complete Unit
Initially when I received the tester, I wondered if it was used or refurbished? The zipper on the bag is broken & wouldn't zip closed. That was the first issue..then it looked like the *glass tester tab on the top had indent marks and the other was smooth. After running through the cal test, I used it to check a couple of gems before putting it away. Yesterday I took it out to try and get things tested to sell. I ran through the cal test again without issue. However..the tester wasn't working properly, it was saying costume pieces were diamond* The piece is not diamond at all..now I'm concerned with the accuracy. Even if I touched the metal, gold, silver, brass..it doesn't sound an alarm, instead..it cruises towards the diamond * chart. Even after I ran through the troubleshoot test..it had the same issue. Inaccurate. I'm at a loss, I think this was used, refurbished or just plain defective. Either way, my faith in the accuracy of this machine is gone. Returning for a refund. ... show more
