  • Nice quality at a great price-point
These boots are a little on the larger side to where I had to overstep the Velcro by about half the width of the strip but even with that, they still closed securely. And while my horse takes pride in shaking off almost anything I've ever put on her (I haven't found a halter yet that she hasn't ditched within a day), these fly socks are still on her. My only concern is the single-stitching. While the single stitching is nicely done, I would prefer double-stitching for anything horse related. Overall, these are pretty nice booties, AND... at only $20, these are a steal! ... show more

  • For the price, they are not too bad!...just a few suggestions
These are similar material to the Shoofly Leggins brand, but not exactly. The holes are a bit larger (See photos. The ShooFly brand is hot pink and these are purple)- not a big deal since they sit so far away from the skin anyway, but it either wears more easily, or, it has to do with how the stays are placed inside the seams. In the Shoofly brand, the stays are wide plastic and are sewn so that they finish inside the bottom seam at the fetlock area. In these, the stays are thin, flexible, flat metal rods (see photos) with protective ends that can slide up and down in the seam. I initially removed them because I could see metal and wanted to make sure they could not injure my horse - nope! They'll be fine, but this material choice is just not as effective as the ShooFly brand. I've found the stays work their way upwards with wear which allows more slouch at the fetlock which is what leads to wear from one leg brushing against the other (I have a similar pair in blue also, see photo for wear area). The ShooFly brand will give me multiple years of use and these may only make it 1 to 1+ years. For the price that's ok, but I also hate filling the landfills with unnecessary stuff. If you're the manufacturer and reading this, if you can fix this part, it would get a 5 star review and would be a great alternative to the most expensive and popular brand out there. BUT, of the cheaper imitation brands out there, this one has the best closure system. What I love about the ShooFly brand is the full length velcro that makes it easy for me to get off once I start (vs multiple areas of velcro I have to tug on once I've bent over). This brand DOES have full length velcro along with extra tabs down the sides plus extra tabs that does make for more work - just make sure to turn these inside out before putting them on your horse (tab sides out). For whatever reason, they ship these with the prickly side of the velcro facing in, pretty much guaranteeing your horse will rip them off with their teeth to get the irritation to stop. Oh, and just take it from me, make sure the tab material matches up 100% or else pony will decide its a new toy and spend countless hours pulling on a tab until its torn away from the boot. Not a huge deal because there is more velcro available at each level, but not lining up the tabs is begging for trouble. So, I do wish they would secure the stay so it doesn't creep up, but for the price I can use some fabric glue to solve that problem. Yes, I would recommend! ... show more

  • Different design
The Velcro design is a little different than what I've seen before. Nice that they have the mesh rods but I wish they were reinforced on the inside too, to prevent from coming out over time. Nice color. Blessings!

  • They're definitely big to the point they almost slide off.
I don't know if it was just my boots, but these seem to run very big. I have a Saddlebred/Arab that's built sorta like a thoroughbred and these are almost too big to the point they're unusable. I'm at the very edge of the tightest velcro. I know how to sew and I'll probably add to the Velcro that is existing on the boots. They also don't really come with instructions, so if you've never used them before it can be a bit confusing I put them on with the velcro on the inside because I was afraid with the excess hanging out that it would catch on something and cause an issue. I imagine you could do either or though. I'm a bit on the fence in regards to value, however, they do definitely help with the flies. The flies were awful this year up by me and my horse hates flies on her legs and her hoofs are suffering due to her constant stomping. I've noticed she isn't stomping as hard as she used to be. If you have a mustang or quarter horse or any warmblood with stockey legs, these would probably fit a lot better than my horse. I have another brand for my other horse. No way would these fit him. ... show more

  • Great protection, easy to put on and stay in place
The flies in our pasture seem to be worse this year. But the Huimpet fly boots really help to protect our horse's hooves. Made from polyester with plenty of Velcro, they are easy to put on and stay in place. The Velcro is strong and they seem to be well-made. And they are purple, which our daughter loves. No more dancing horse syndrome! ... show more

  • work well but only for 1 season
These work ok for a season. They are not as sturdy as other brands that held up for at least 2 seasons but the horses were grateful to have them to keep the flies off their legs. The velcro needs to be lined up in order for them to stay on which makes them slightly harder to put on but overall work for the season. ... show more
