Arrived broken in due to a serious design flaw in the construction of the roof. Both roof sections were broken along the front edge where a line of wood staples weaken it and the wood eventually split in two. I used wood glue and screws to reconnect the broken off sections because I didn't want to bother exchanging it - any replacement would likely have the same problem. Was simply less work to fix it. It is also made of a very soft wood. You can crush it in your hand if you tried. Looks and smells like cedar but feels more like balsa wood. ... show more

It needs to be made of harder wood. The wood used is way to soft to hold the staples that are used in some of the construction. It has started to come apart and I have had it only for a short time. I have taken it apart to try to strengthen it before reassembly and using it again. The design is ok, looks cute and was easy to assemble. Just use better wood and better fasteners than staples that are similar to what is used to clip paper together. ... show more

Looks nice and as pictired but extremely fragile. The wood pieces that make up the roof are especially fragile and splinter easily.

    • Easy to put together. Dog moved right in.
We have this on my covered porch, which can get some wind blown rain. I don't know how well it would stand up to full exposure of elements. The roof is made so water won't leak. The legs are a nice touch to keep it up off the wet surface. Very easy to put together, like an Ikea shelf, especially with a power screw driver. Has a nice woodsy, cabiny look to it. This is actually much nicer-looking in person - even my father (who hates everything) thinks it's great. The semi-feral cat it was bought for, however, has yet to decide it's his new McMansion. Maybe it just needs a sign above the door for him to call it home: Monroe's Cat House.

I had purchased this item 3 years ago and the product "held up". I recently purchased another lodge but the roof panels warped within 3 days, leaving gaps between the slats in the roof.     • Clean lines, easy assembly, quick shipment
This is a relatively light weight but sound structure. Clean lines and natural material blends well outside. Passed the pet litmus test - the dog and cats like it and use it a lot. I'd rather have a slightly smaller opening as I suspect it will allow rain in, but haven't had it long enough to test. If so, I can put a shelter over it easily. The weather here in Sacramento is a good match for this structure. The dog uses it even in hot weather as the wood floor is very good thermal barrier. I'm very pleased with this product as I did my homework and this is a good fit. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the material is fairly light.
