  • Great Starter Book
This book addresses all you need to start. I've had a few lessons and this book helps where the lessons were confusing or I just plan forgot. Very much recommended!

  • Lots of pictures
Not a lot of meat between cover. Many pictures and large font …. I enjoyed jon’s YouTube and felt good about supporting him, but this was a simple book at best .

  • Feeling let down and mislead.
I hate to say it but I'm a bit disappointed and let down with Jon the Potters first book on pottery. I was expecting some deep dive insight and instruction into making pottery. I was especially hoping that he would share the glaze technique that he uses on his pottery, but sadly that is missing from this book. Personally when I buy a book on pottery glazing instruction is a huge part of why I choose to buy the book. Then it turns out he was offering a class on Glazing that you had to pay an additional $35 + dollars to take part in!!! Seriously? Out of control greed. If you're going to cover pottery you need to cover the entire process. Unless your focusing on a specific aspect of pottery. The business section was very weak and lacking any real depth and guidance. Another reason why I purchased the book. Overall if you've been watching his videos then you don't need to buy this book. With that said your more likely to get better instruction and insight from those videos than you will from this book. I give Jon credit for trying but honestly I think he's riding more and more on his name than he is on his skills as a creative and imaginative potter. But what he lacks in skill he makes up for his enthusiasm. You get what you paid for. ... show more

  • Inspires creativity!
Well written, easy to understand, comfortable to hold and includes answers to all of the questions I have as someone who loves pottery and really knows so little (next to nothing) He doesn't intimidate, instead - actually inspires everyone to get involved if you love making things with clay! I thoroughly appreciate and love this book and will always keep it on hand for reference. Thank you so much for putting it together JTP! ... show more

  • Art teacher approved 👍
I’m an art teacher, and I love showing videos from John’s YouTube when we do pottery. I saw the book and had to get it. Book already inspired one of my students to make the chip and dip bowl! Fantastic breakdown of tools, basic wheel techniques, and the different projects and how-to’s, especially with the step by step pics! ... show more
