  • Simple design, easy face covering
For those who may not like to wear face masks with ear loops or ties, this is another option. Plus, when you're not using it, you can just wear it around your neck. The material is pretty tightly-knit, but not so much so that it is difficult to breathe through. I could probably wear it while jogging, but while sprinting it might be somewhat of a challenge. For shopping during the pandemic, it is no bother and stays in place well without pinching or otherwise constricting. I wear glasses and this sits below my ears and below the bridge of my nose, so my glasses are not impacted either. The material feels cooling, although the dark color does heat up in direct sun and can be a little on the hot side until you start perspiring and it has something to wick away and cool you down. Some similar products are a single piece of fabric in a continuous loop. This one is a tube, but has a seam down the middle that joins with the stitching that goes around each end. It isn't a problem, but you probably want to make sure that goes to the back or it might look funny, or rub your face in an uncomfortable way. I can't really say anything bad about it: you get what you expect and it is not too loose or too tight. It is plenty long and you could wear it over your eyes if you want to, but it won't really block out light, nor is it good to see through unless you're in a sandstorm or out in the desert without sunglasses, I imagine. Initially, it smelled a little weird, but that went away with some use and a wash. It comes in a little zipper-lock plastic pouch that you can use to store it if you like. ... show more

  • Lightweight, Fairly Comfortable
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I picked it up primarily for use as a coronavirus mask, although I wouldn't hesitate to use it for other purposes, e.g., as a lightweight facial covering for cold morning bike rides. The fabric is light on the skin. You can double-layer it if you want (by folding it) to provide more warmth, or if you would like extra prevention of potential coronavirus exposure. Obviously it is not an N1 mask -- it's a fabric mask. But it is a little easier to handle than, say a mask with ear loops. You can easily drop the mask below your mouth and chin to get it out of the way when unnecessary and then pull it up quickly as needed. Any facial covering is going to inhibit breathing somewhat. And this is no exception. But, compared to some purpose-made ear-loop masks, I found it easier to breathe. The thin fabric likely offers less protection than a thicker mask with multiple layers built in, so I think you have to be wise, in the coronavirus context, in when you use it and when you go to something thicker, likely with more protection. I'm using it for bike rides or for walks with my dog when I don't think I will be spending any time in crowded situations. One thing in addition -- most masks and other facial coverings tend to fog eyeglasses and sunglasses. Again, this is no exception. But I have found it possible to minimize fogging by wearing it lower on my face, still covering my nose but lower on each side. The fabric is elastic enough to hold itself in place. Not bad at all. ... show more

  • Decent
So I'll start by saying that since requesting this item from Amazon Vine, studies were done that show the inefficacies of using gaiters as masks during COVID. With that said, I don't intend to use it for that purpose. I plan to use this for chilly fall days that are creeping up quickly in NY. In regards to the mask itself... - it was extremely pungent upon its arrival. it stunk of chemicals/plastic-y smells. I tried to on to see how it fit, and immediately put it into the wash because there was no way I could keep that on smelling that. - it is not a tight fit, at least not on my average sized head. It's quite loose. It did, however, tighten just the slightest bit after going through the wash. - it's very lightweight, which is nice for fall weather use. it will keep me warm enough, but not sweating. - it's very soft. it's not rough on my face and it doesn't itch. - it looks nice. looks well-made and sleek. - it's currently going for $14.99 and has a 15% coupon. the price seems pretty reasonable. Overall, it's decent. The intense smell really turned me off, but now that it smells better I'm more inclined to use it. ... show more

  • Unfounded claims
Who ever thought that you'd actually be able to compare face masks and coverings? The Portzon Neck Gaiter is nothing special. Large seams, the material is no different that other face masks I've worn. The big issue is the elastic that actually would hold the mask to your face. I was able to pull the mask down by just moving my cheeks. If you are a runner or cyclist this would become annoying very quickly as you would have to constantly re-adjust the gaiter. Windproof? They're all windproof to some extent, again, this one no more or less than other masks. Breathable...well, you would hope so, right? Otherwise you wouldn't be alive to rate the product. Much better neck gaiters out there. ... show more

  • As an allergy sufferer, I love this mask
*** Okay, let me get this out of the way first. This is not a COVID-19 complaint face mask. It actually makes the breath droplets smaller, making it easier for the virus to spread *** Now then. This mask is EXCELLENT as a year round allergy sufferer. For its intended use, keeping dust, pollen, etc out I've found it excellent so far. I wear it when I go down to the city park to job. It's extremely soft, and very breathable while keeping a lot of the gunk in the air (the larger particulate, anyway) out of my sinuses. If you have a short neck you'll find it bunches a bit at the bottom, but it's not uncomfortable or anything. You'd have to be an actual giraffe not to get full neck coverage, however. I don't have much experience comparing this to other, similar masks, but I've used bandanas, dust masks, etc before, and this is the easiest to breathe in while still providing some relief. If I were a cyclist, I'd wear this thing every time I got on the bike just to keep the road dust out. ... show more
