I dont have enough cash to buy snd send birthday gifts, so I remembered how much I enjoyed in college getting letters snd cards from my mom. So when she passed, I took up the mantle of her love of corresponding and keeping track of all the mailing addresses for our family. Quite a task. So, when money was really a problem, I'd just get cards at Dollar General ir Dollar Tree, just walk to the store. Yes, it was close. As money got better, I started buying cards with more to them, but not expensive. Cards could be really expensive, even at Walmart or Target and getting a cool 3D birthday card for less than a plain flat one, of course I'd buy them. My favorite i bought for a friend in June, is a sneaky 3D steam engine train that is a card, yes available on Amazon. Both my daughter and I wrote on it. He's a very special friend, like family. He LOVED the card. He has his own working, small train sets, like the ones made for Harry Potter, which sold for $50 at Macy's in 2007. I've only had 1 person in 20 years not be happy about getting a card and that's on him. The only other card difficulty was a nephew in Air Force. Classified information and such. I'm having problems getting any cards out now because of health issues, but doing my best. Still nag everyone about updating addresses. Tired and poorer due to our lovely economy. But immediate family always gets cards or presents. Even FB has become acceptable due to timeliness and my writing / creative skills. I mean, whenwas the last time you got any type of card or letter, written on, from family or friends. Makes a difference. Have managed to transfer this love giving to family. What a nice gift and tradition to keep going. The cards I buy are affordable, well made, normally take 2 Forever stamps became of the weight. All cards kept in one place, so I know where to find them and stamps are kept under magnet on refrigerator. Alwsys appreciated. Even if I don't get a thank you. I'll be in trouble if USPS ever shuts down. I don't think they will. Have been around since mid 1800s with Wells Fargo and pony mail delivery. They even survived wirker "goung postal" in 70s or 80s. Don't remember the exact years. Generally just get no sound cards of goid quality card stock, yes colorful and you'll need a tissue. ... show more

This comes with an envelope like a birthday card, but the card part is that little 2” square with a few blank lines on the back. The pop-up gift box comes flat in the envelope and the recipient opens it and folds the flaps down. It looks great on a mantle next to other regular cards. I really like the glitter in the printing, it makes the whole thing pop with joy. This does suffice as a birthday card, and it is more fun. The envelope size is large and square, the folded box a standard half-open card size. The cardstock is efficient; thick enough, not extra thick. The price is on the high end for paper. This is a very cute card. Opens easily and folds out into an exploding box card. Definitely a hit with the birthday girl! Recommend if you are looking for something more than a generic birthday card. The gold colors on the black really set off the card, and it was fabulous for a 50th birthday. If you are going to mail it would take a bit of extra postage, as the envelope is oversized.
