I am big into melee weaponry. I have bats, batons, swords, knives, knuckle-dusters, axes, a spear, and even a couple of Viking weapons lying around the house. I don't ever plan on actually using them for their intended purpose, but I like to have them around. I had high expectations upon ordering this self-defense bat, and the bat has met them. First of all, this bat has a great weight to it. I have an aluminum baseball bat that I've kept for years, which is ideal for baseball. The weight distribution in this wooden bat is much different. One can tell that's its better-suited for inflicting damage on the human body, as awful and visceral as it sounds, it's true. Weighing in at barely over two pounds, it feels heavier. The bat is slightly smaller, and lighter than a regulation baseball bat - but don't let that deter you. It feels weighty, solid, and strong. And with that weight reduction, comes increased effectiveness in combat. This weapon is going to swing faster, and strike harder, than a larger one. For a reasonably strong person, this is a good two-handed weapon. If you are large and quite strong, you may be able to use it with one hand. It just feels heavier than it does "on paper". The whole thing just feels really solid, and anyone who grabs it can tell it is not a toy, and can be incredibly dangerous in the right (or wrong, depending on the situation and person) hands. And it looks cool, because it comes in black and says "Not For Baseball", quotes included. I would definitely exercise caution with this one, but if you're looking for a good self-defense bat that is obviously built for just that, then here you are. They always say that if You keep a Baseball Bat in your trunk or car, make sure to also throw a Glove and a few Balls in there too (Your Lawyer will thank You down the road) ... Bottom line, it's a REAL bat, probably some Asian Softwood so probably not for use in an actual GAME - but well, if that's a deal-breaker for You it's probably time to hire a Private Detective to find your sense of humor. I bought a simple $5 wall-mount bat hook and have this hanging prominently next to my desk at work, everyone gets a good chuckle out of it (even if they don't think it's funny, they feel obligated, hahahaha) ... Good Yuks and unique, not too spendy either for the laugh mileage it can get You ... show more

The ideal and tasteful choice for when you detect the neighboring heidelbergensis group has been encroaching upon your territory, hoping to contest your resources. There are times when insulting gestures are simply not enough. In all seriousness though, this is nice bat. The finish is quite nice, although it is somewhat lacking in grip. I can easily get an okay enough grip on it if I pay attention, however this is not ideal, so I will be installing some cloth/hockey tape on the handle. Although the bat is painted, I can slightly see the orientation and tightness of the wood grain. It looks pretty good, although I would speculate that it is from a younger tree, possibly from a tree farm. Regardless, I do not anticipate any problems. The balance feels good, and although it is described as being outside baseball regulations, it wields like any bat I've held. It swings nicely and is easy enough to aim and control, while still having the heft that one would expect. All in all good stuff. If you want a classy and well made implement, this is solid choice. In my mind, I was thinking "how does one write a review of a bat?", and my brain started making caveman noises and I was almost tempted to leave the review as "unga bunga. Bat good. Strong swing. Make hurt" or something. But I'll be serious, because this is a serious weapon. I say weapon because as the branding emphatically states, this is "not for baseball". This is for swinging a home run on home intruders or road ragers or what have you. And while I'm not encouraging you to seek out trouble, I'm going to ensure you that this product is SOLID and would most assuredly get you out of trouble promptly, should it arise. ... show more
