  • A Great Step-By-Step Book For Learning How To Play The Piano
I like this book very much. It is one of the best books for learning to play non-classical piano. With this method, you don't have to read the base staff. You just read the treble staff and play it with your right hand, and use the cord symbols written above the treble staff to play cords with your left hand. The book is well organized and written. It will take you step-by-step from the very basics to more difficult topics. In all honesty, I began my piano playing journey with Scott Houston's "Play Piano in a Flash" book which for me was the right book at the right time. I have no musical talent, but Scott broke down playing the piano into very simple terms that even I could understand. Without getting over that initial hurtle, I would never have attempted to play the piano. So, if you are a complete novice, also consider "Play Piano in a Flash." Both books use the same basic method for playing. The "Pointer System For Piano" goes further by showing you a comprehensive method for playing the many different types of cords. I like both books. I need all the help I can get. :) Being able to make music is a wonderful experience. I wish anyone considering playing the piano, the very best. You will be greatly rewarded. ... show more

  • I used this book to help one of my forensic ...
I used this book to help one of my forensic mental patients start to learn piano. He wanted to learn, there were no lessons provided by the PT group. He is enjoying sitting down and practicing. This gives him some (small to us, major to him) goals to achieve and when he "gets it" he feels something he's never had before. Pride. As his unit RN I can continue to help him along at night and weekends. Other patients hang around and watch/listen. ... show more

  • Pointer Method for Piano
This book, the complete series all-in-one, is a fantastic resource, for those beginning and for those of us who are journeymen on the wonderful study of piano. Great, my piano teacher told me about this series, it was the same method that his father told him about when he was just 8-years-old. I would highly recommend this for the beginner student or anyone with an interest in the study of piano. ... show more

  • Just like anything you are trying to learn
Just like anything you are trying to learn, the more you stay with it the more you will learn. You must take the time to do the lessons in this book or it won't work. I have learned a lot from this book. The left hand trips me up some.
