  • This Pirate Gives This One Thumb Up (and a hook)
I perform magic and teach period games at Renaissance Faires and Pirate Festivals. I got these coins to test as an alternative to the coins I have been using. The coin on the left is what I currently use - plastic. I get called out when I use these because, as I get told, they didn't have plastic back then. The metal coins are half the size but that's a plus for teaching games - more bets on a small layout so more people can get involved. The sound the make when being shaken in a leather bag or in my hand make a more realistic sound than the plastic coins. This adds to the show and gaming experience. Although they weigh about the same, on super windy days the plastic ones have a tendency to fly away - the metal ones stay put. The only negative isn't really a negative of the product itself but a compliment - I have to keep an eye on the coins because folks like to take off with them. I recommend these for reenactors and Larpers alike. Plus they'd make great party favors. ... show more

  • Only the size of a nickel - Not as big as other fake doubloons
These might be fun for a little kid, but they're not very impressive due to their small size. They're only about the size of a nickel. While they're made of metal, it's a lightweight metal and the coins are only about half the thickness of a nickel, so they're very insubstantial. The product description is accurate that the coins are 7/8" diameter, but the product photos are not accurate. The children holding coins, and the coins at the poker table are all Photoshopped in and considerably larger than the actual coins received. I have other fake doubloons that are much bigger, the size of a 50 cent piece, and much more substantial. (See pics) The other ones actually have a "pirate-y" feel to them. These are like if pirates used pennies instead of doubloons. ... show more

  • Awesome pirate templar spanish gold doubloons my barista wouldn't accept still.
Yarr! I tried to pay my barista in these templar doubloons the day after they were delivered. He knew they weren't real gold after biting them but he still thought it was cool enough he put some extra foam on my cappuccino for me. I added them to my pirate treasure chest and they're probably the most authentic looking thing in the pile now. The only criticism is they're almost too clean to be pirate gold. Seawater corrosion, dings, wear, and chips might be something I try adding to a few of these. The cute little package they come in seems dicey but works OK to hold them all in. For the value, looks, and design they're totally awesome and I'm very happy to recommend them. ... show more

  • Ahoy me maties!
Fun set of gold-colored coins that have more heft to them than the typical play money. We like to keep a small treasure chest filled with pirate coins of this type to give to kids at our local coin shows. These coins are a little less than one inch in diameter, nicely detailed and very shiny. Supposedly they have some metal in them and can be found with a metal detector, which adds a nice dimension to a treasure hunt. The only downside is that you only get 21 pieces, which would go quickly if you're handing them out at a party. ... show more

  • Metal Gold Pirate Coins
These are perfect for cosplay as well as props for LARPing or various role playing games. They are made of zinc and they do have a nice clink of metal on metal. I don't care for the packaging; basically a single sheet of cardboard folded and tucked like a loose-fitting envelope. The coins were rattling around inside the shipping box when it arrived. Fortunately, they were all there. ... show more

  • Great toys for kids and adults.
These gold-plated pirate treasure coins are very cool. They look and feel how you'd expect real pirate treasure to be. It is very neat to see the planned errors in the coin that old coins should have. Such as: uneven width on the edges and uncentered stamping of the lettering. I enjoy shaking them together to hear the clanking noise they make. Great toy for kids and adults. ... show more

  • Nice quality metal.
Nice! These coins are metal rather than plastic, which is really a step up from the costume quality plastic we usually receive. Size-wise, I had thought they'd be about the size of a quarter, but they are more the size of a nickel, but flatter than a nickel. Our boys have had so much fun dressing up as pirates and having treasure to go with them! $10 is maybe a bit pricey for a handful of coins, but these are nice quality. ... show more

  • A good set of gold coins for upgrading board game coins or cosplay fun
This set of 21 metal coins are nicely designed with a pattern that makes them feel like old doubloons. They are a bit light and small, but they work well for replacing cardboard tokens in a board game (how we are using them) or just for kids playing pirates.
