  • Great affordable amp
I had a Pioneer GM-8604 a couple years back and ended up letting it go with a car I sold. I basically bought the newer year model of it with the 8704 and it's just as good. PLENTY of power for my Pioneer D-Series 6x9 components and my A-series 6.5" coax speakers in my F150. I actually have it at about 70% gain right now because I don't really need the full 100%. I also don't need the background noise that kicks is and I think that's the only detractor I have with this amp. It's price is near-impossible to beat but the SNR shows ~75 DB which means I think it's generating some background static noise one you get it above half gain (marked with an H I believe on the amp). At first it's nearly unnoticeable but if you push halfways between Normalized gain and Half Gain it starts to get a little bit obvious. When music is playing it can't be heard but quieter tracks you'll hear it and that's kind of a bummer. Fortunately I don't really need the last 20%+ power so I keep the noise to a minimum but I think the SNR is kind of at-fault for having that background noise at higher gain settings. I've also heard that it could be due to lesser components used. Granted, Pioneer is typically reliable across the board and offers great value without cheaping out hard on components, but there's a reason Rockford and others have amps that are a little more expensive and don't offer quite as much output: they're using higher grade internal components which I think helps mitigate things like background noise at high gain. BUT, if you're just trying to power some 50-80W speakers I think the GM-8704 is unbeatable for its value and output capabilities. The background noise is non-existent until you start to get your gain structure set closer to Normal (12-o-clock, basically) where you're trying to push the full 100W RMS-per-channel @ 4 ohms that you may be going for. This is a good amp. There are better but they're hard to recommend if you're not trying to put a high-quality stereo system that's meant to be a showroom-caliber setup. This amp does great and outside of the static/hiss you'll get if you're really cranking the gain, it's perfect. ... show more

  • Great sound and clarity. Not Chinese junk
I bought a Kicker amp that boasted much more power and clarity for just a few dollars less than the Pioneer. I was instantly disappointed and returned it. What a piece of junk. I then did some research and decided on the Pioneer. Instant gratification. The sound was so clear and there was an obvious increase in the power. I highly recommend it. Just say no to China. ... show more

  • POWER!
So far so good! Makes my speakers scream for sure. Doesn’t get super hot which is a major plus. Very compact for its output! Would definitely recommend.

  • Good quality just like their other stuff the past decade
Always had pioneer products but never tried their amps. It's solid and replaced my walmart branded amp. It was a very big upgrade and just feels a lot more robust and its form factor is great since im also running a long skar monoblock amp within a small space. Im surprised at the power and the background noise is very minimal even before fine tuning the gains. Im running the s2 65c Alpines for the front and rear and im sure the power is a little more than what the speakers can handle. The sound is clearer even moreso than the other entry amps ive had through the years like crunch, boss, and blaupunkt. The install was easy and gives you the right amount of spacefor the terminals even when running slightly thicker wires. I used a reducer on my 0 gauge ground and had a smaller gauge for the power cable and it fit perfectly without the cables touching. while ive had other amps just give me so much trouble due to weird and awkward placements of terminals or the spacing was just too tight for slightly thicker wire. I think the slight angle helps for sure. But the power cable didnt exactly fit the best even with a tight fitted ferrule. Ill mess around see if i can make a better connection than just straight wire to terminal. So far no other other complaints ... show more

  • Warranty sucks
Great little amp. Plenty of power. Mine started hissing from the rear speakers at about 9 months of ownership. Pioneer has been absolutely useless in their warranty. Going on 6 emails over 3 weeks asking me to troubleshoot, who installed it, whats running it, etc. You think Id contact you if it was a wiring issue? Now that its at their repair place, they want a receipt that specifically lists the model number, which Amazon cant provide. Basically looking for any reason they can find to not cover it. Go elsewhere, Pioneer doesnt want your business. ... show more

  • Perfect 4 Channel Amp! LOTS of POWER!
Very powerful amplifier for your truck or car. 100 watts RMS is a lot of power. Considering the stock speakers are only powered by 10 to 12 watts RMS. Even with a head unit With MOSFET you're only looking at around 14 watts RMS. You're going to need good speakers for this amp, though. Stock speakers in any vehicle will not be enough. I'm running some top end Alpine and in my other vehicle I have some top end kickers. Make sure the RMS rating on your speakers are at least 80 watts. You always want to power a speaker accordingly and sometimes believe it or not, even overpowering the speaker slightly is better than underpowering. You would never want to have a 200 Watt rated speaker with only 100 Watt amp on it. That would eventually destroy the speaker. This amplifier works best with speakers that have an RMS rating of 80 to 110 watts. Easy to install. Worth every penny. ... show more
