  • Great Pen For ZENTANGLE and Fine Line Art
This is a great, different pen for me for my ZENTANGLING and Optical Illusion Fine line art. I do lots of different kinds of art using all different sorts of "Media" (paint, pencil, and especially pens). So, this was a new type of pen for me and for the most part I really enjoyed it. When I first started there was a bit of a learning curve getting the lines and ink out just right. I usually draw fast so I needed to slow down and follow the instructions about line direction. The instruction booklet was extremely helpful. I mean who knew how to use a nib cleaner? I didn't before this. The instructions should be helpful to anybody because they come in at least ten different languages. (Lol, bit of an exaggeration.) All in all I give this great bargain pen 5 stars because of great line and ink options. Tried both colors on different types of paper and the black was a nice deep dark, red was vibrant. Neither one excessively bled on sketchbook paper, oil canvas paper or my ZENTANGLE tiles. The two different widths of nibs was great fun to play with in my line drawings. The pen construction is mostly good, easy to hold with a tight screw on cap. My only complaint would be not being able to put the cap on the other end of the pen while using it. I highly suggest getting this pen. It's cheap and worth the time spent to get some great projects done. ... show more

  • Easy to Assemble and Use!
As someone who is somewhat new to Calligraphy (i've dabbled here and there but always had issues with the pens I used), I found this Pilot Parallel set to be quite easy to use. I had purchased the 2.4 mm nib, as per instructed to me by a DIY instruction (you know, cute personalized envelopes are always the best) and was surprised at how smooth the writing was! I don't have that steady of a hand, and often find writing with calligraphy pens to be a hassel, but I was able to write quite easily, as the pen did not feel to bulky or too light in my hand (it was just right!) Loading the cartridge was also rather easy! I used the black ink, of course, for a professional look, and was glad to find that there was no bleeding through to the other side of the envelope. (For reference, these were hand folded envelopes made from a thicker cut paper, a little more flexible than cardstock, but not loose and thin as a normal envelope. I had not tried it on regular paper but I imagine that there might be some slight bleeding considering the pigment of the ink.) I do not belive that this pen would be too good to use as just a daily lettering sort of thing (I've seen people who use calligraphy pens too write basic notes in their fancy sort of script!) but, I most certainly recommend it to someone who is just starting out, or someone who simpky would like o add a bit of flare to a gift, card, or invitation...hell as with what i did, a DIY home project! I will look forward to purchasing the other sizes for my future endeavors! ... show more

  • Great pen! Bought more of them.
This is my first time buying this Pilot Parallel Pen. I wasn't expecting much from it honestly, but I've been using it daily since buying it! Very smooth, easy to assemble and write with. No leaking, no snags on paper, ink hasn't bled through. Great for beginners because it's affordable and is easy to use. I originally purchased the 2.4 size (medium/orange) which is the one I'm reviewing here, and I've just ordered the smaller one to use for writing in my large lined Moleskin notebook - the 2.4 Pilot is too big for *my* liking, for note writing. I use a 2.4 for doing calligraphy, etc. Definitely recommend and plan to buy a few more and some extra ink cartridges for it. I guess if your a fountain pen snob ;) this wouldn't be very exciting, but I have noting but good to say about it. Great stocking stuffers too!! The cap screws on easily and the ink has not dried out or leaked. It's plastic, lightweight, and pretty durable for the type of pen it is. Though you can't go throwing a fountain pen around like a ball point pen, I'm able to put it in my Swiss backpack (which are great btw) and take it work me, etc ... show more

  • You don't have to be an artist to write like a pro with this pen!
PROS: - Light weight - Writes delightfully - Secure rotating cap - Cleaning tools CONS: - Confusing assembly instructions - Lacks visual appeal For this item, you get a square-tipped pen, rotating cap, 2 color ink cartridges (blue and red), and cleaning tools. Instruction manual - The very compact instruction manual is a bit confusing. I tried to follow the assembly instructions but I can't say that it's a very straight forward document. However, if you just play around with the pieces and use different orientations, the pen comes together quite easily. Assembly - The total assembly time without relying on the assembly manual took less than 2 minutes. It comes together quite nicely, but I have to warn users not to apply too much pressure on the ink cartridge. Before using this pen, you have to gently squeeze the ink cartridge to get the ink to the pen tip. If excess force is used, ink will squirt out! Functionality - Using this pen makes anyone feel like a pro in writing calligraphy! I tried writing both large and small characters and what came out looked absolutely stunning! The pen felt good to hold in the hand and the pen tip is almost asking you to rotate and try different strokes when writing. I also let my 2 young children try and they too were amazed at how well this pen writes! They said they are creating "Art" without trying. Visual - While the pen writes beautifully, it does lack the aesthetics appeal. The dull grey plastic pen body and the orange cap looks plain and ordinary. When I put it in a pencil box, it literally "blends" in with the other generic pens with no "pop" factor whatsoever. The only way I can recognize this pen in the pencil box “crowd” is from the fact that this pen is slightly longer than the others. I gave the pen 4 stars because it met most of my expectations for this price. I would have given it 5 stars if the pen came pre-assembled and if it had more weight like it was made out of metal. These things would have made this purchase felt like a jewel! ... show more
