  • Great for the Price Point
I find this to be a great value for the money. However, I do not recommend this if you plan to setup/teardown regularly. I would not use it outdoors. It is perfect if you have a space where you can set it up and leave it. Everything came in a single box. No parts were missing. As has been mentioned before, take your time setting it up. Don't force anything. The stands are lightweight but adequate if handled with care. The 3 muslin backdrops came in plastic zip locks so no staining was present as others have stated. Two of the stands, wrapped in plastic, are loose in the box while the other 2 stands are in a box. One set has a sticker on the bottom with a #1 on it and the other two have a #3 on them. After examining them I see no difference between them. I was thinking that maybe the ones for the backdrop frame would be a little more robust but they appear to be exactly the same. The muslin material looks like it will steam out nicely. The only thing that had me wondering at first when setting up the lights was that initially they did not turn on. I tried a different bulb thinking it may have been damaged in transit and still nothing. I looked inside the socket and the metal tab that the bulb makes contact with seemed pushed down to the bottom. I used a set of curved end hemostats to pull the tab up more horizontal with the bottom of the socket. The bulb felt like it was all the way in but it still didn't light. So I gently continued to tighten the bulb ever so slightly and it finally made contact and lit. I had to do the same with the other light and everything is working great. As recommended by others I did get an additional clamp pack which you will need to help stretch the backdrops taught. I definitely recommend this lighting package provided you don't expect it to be a workhorse about town. ... show more

  • Decent starter backdrop/lighting kit ... does what it says, no more and no less.
I purchased this photography backdrop kit for the specific purpose of using it for lightweight indoors photography backdrops and quick green-screening. Not to use outside, not to display quilts at craft shows or fairs, not to use as an opaque backwall/divider for convention floor stalls or wedding reception head tables, and not to use as a projector screen. It just isn't made for those purposes ... for those, I actually use self-assembled industrial grade black pvc tubes, t-connectors, and angles available from any home improvement store (and paracord/ground stakes to secure it upright for outside use). So, indoor use only unless you weight the stands and paracord/stake the backdrop stand to the ground to prevent the wind from toppling it. For an out of the box and ready to use kit, you get the basic hardware you need and everything works. Nothing exciting or outstanding ... it just does its job. Great if you're just starting out. Just don't buy it with the expectation you're getting the same studio grade photography accessories that you've seen used by your local career photographers for around $100. Nope, you're not getting a Porsche Taycan 4S for the price of a base model Chevy Spark. It's a solid value though to me, I like it ... the hardest part is finding a seller offering it at the lowest possible price + shipping. It comes with a one folded sheet of picture instructions. If you can set up and open a patio umbrella while chewing bubble gum or whistling, you won't need them. Set up and break down only takes a few minutes. There are a lot of negative reviews about the included carrying case not fitting everything in it. Like the incorrect descriptions used by all online sellers of this kit and ones like it, the buyer reviews are actually true. The included carrying case is only for the poles and stands for the "backdrop stand" ... not the light stands, light umbrellas, backdrops, or backdrop clamps. This kit is composed of 3 individual accessory kits. So ... in my case, I purchased a cheap canvas duffle bag from my local Army/Navy Surplus store (you can also buy cheap new ones online if you don't want someone else's name stenciled on it) that holds all of this kit plus my extension cords, power strips, camera accessories, several other specialty backdrops, chair stretch covers, Santa Suit, etc. I highly encourage getting a duffle bag. You get 4 backdrop clamps. I consider these to be more top horizontal bar clamps, even though you can use 2 on top and 2 on the on the upright vertical poles to hold backdrops in place. You'll need more, period. What is not included are adjustable side string clips. You can find inexpensive backdrop panel clamp/clip packs for around $15 online that come with 6 clamps and 8 string clips ... pick a pack up. Later on you'll be glad you did. Minimum width is 5 feet that variably extends (slides) across to 10 feet. As others have commented here, most 6 foot and 8 foot backdrop panels have rod slots sewn in their tops that allows you to simply slide the backdrops on the crossbar. If you go beyond 8 foot wide ... unless you're buying a better grade backdrop panel ($$$) ... there more than likely won't be a rod slot and you'll need those clamps and clips we talked about above. Some buyers have commented that at the 10 foot width, the horizontal crossbar you hang the backdrop panels from "bows down" in the middle. I haven't encountered that ... but then again I'm using only one backdrop panel at a time and I'm not hanging heavy quilts on it to display either. The included backdrop panels are fine in both size and thickness. 4 stars for the minimal clamps .... if there had been 8 clamps, then 5 stars. Everyone asks about the white umbrella lights ... more specifically if you point the umbrella/light toward what you're photographing or away from it. It really doesn't matter as long as you're getting the lighting you want. But technically, these are "shoot through" umbrella lights where you point the umbrella/light at your subject as the light is diffused through the umbrella evenly toward your subject. If the insides of the umbrellas were reflective coated (and the umbrellas where black), then you'd have a reflective or "bounce-back" lighting umbrella where the light and umbrella would be turned away from your subject to illuminate it. This kit doesn't have those and my kit only came with white umbrellas/no inside reflective coating. I did swap out the CFL 4250 lumen Daylight bulbs with LED Daylight bulbs of the same lumen specifications I already had. If you purchase this kit, I wouldn't worry about immediately switching to LED bulbs until you have to. And then it becomes a matter of price vs. longevity of the bulb (and environmental awareness associated with discarded CFLs). With this kit you get what you get, no more no less. Of course they could have provided a bigger carryall bag, more clamps/clips, LED bulbs, etc. that most commenters point out as deficiencies in their reviews ... but you'd also pay more, a lot more. The hardware is "durable" with normal care and use ... however it is NOT "invincible" ... don't expect it to last if you force it or toss it around, especially when extending or collapsing the stands. Take your time and it will last. ... show more

  • Worth the money
I purchased this for some inside photography. Like other reviews state, this is not an extremely sturdy frame nor extremely bright lights. However, it worked well for what I wanted it for. Keep in mind that the backdrop isn't as large as it sounds. My wife is 5'6" and the backdrop often wasn't long/tall enough when also draped on the floor. ... show more

  • Great Studio kit for beginners!
Even my professional photographer friends were wowed! Very nice thick Black, White and Chromakey Green Screen. The only downside is that my screens don’t reach the full width of the stand. The stand for the screens are a bit wobbly, but sandbag may fix this issue. I wouldn’t use outside in windy weather without have a sturdy backing. But it’s a huge plus for my online classes via Zoom. Which is the reason I bought the it in the first place. I’ve started my own business making T-shirt and other HTV and non HTV transferable items and having the HYJ-INC Photography Studio is just what I needed for product models. Now I have professional looking photos of my inventory without paying someone else to do it for me. ... show more

  • Only Pros... "NO" cons :D
I 100% recommend! Not a single stumble along the setup... though there was no instructions. Fortunately my step-father is very knowledgeable when it comes to videography and photography :D
