  • 3.5 years and still going strong
Style: 9012 Pattern Name: Bulb
So far this bulb has held up for me. I have it in the drivers side on Chevy volt. On the passenger side I have a LED. I’m on my second LED on passenger side and it’s getting dim. Pros for this bulb. It lasts longer than I expected. Install was easy and fit was snug. It is brighter and has better distance throw than LED. Cons: light is typical halogen yellow. I chose a LED on passenger because it is a lot harder to change out than driver side, but I guess I messed up because the LED gave up first. LED lasted 2 years and this second one is getting dim. You can tell there’s a huge color difference between this bulb and the LED. I have a 4 sided LED to simulate this bulb in the projector housing, however the light spreads out and doesn’t project nearly as far as this 9012 bulb. When I use high beam, which is essentially a cover that lifts and allows all the bulbs light out, this bulb is bright! White light would be nicer, but this bulb does its job well. Definitely the best halogen I have ever used. I have tried all the whiter halogen bulbs, silver star, etc. they all die in 6 months or less. They are whiter than this bulb, but not brighter, and they die too quick, and are not cheap. If you are going for a nice white look, get a good LED, just know that you won’t see that far down the road without using high beam or lifting the lens, which blinds on coming traffic. If you just want a safe light source that lasts long, buy this bulb. Update: I’m on my 3rd LED on passenger side(USA) And This bulb is still going strong! Go figure.. you can see the color difference between LED and this bulb. The LED I just changed to is alla lighting Fl-bh. It is 126% brighter according to bulbfacts.com at 5350k. However, I’m still keeping this bulb in drivers side because 1. Halogen reaches further down the road and doesn’t get washed out due to the tighter hot spot. 2. The LED definitely would blind on coming drivers more if i installed on drivers side. The look might be weird for some, but I get the benefits from both as opposed to the negatives if I had both halogen or both LED. Benefits for normal driving as well as inclement weather like rain, snow and fog. ... show more

  • Good Light Temperature
Style: 9012 Pattern Name: Bulb
Can't tell you how much I anticipated receiving this package today. I just bought a like-new 2018 RAV4 Hybrid a couple of weeks ago and had the opportunity to drive it at night this past weekend. Boy, the headlights were terrible! So, I figured the car was more than a few years old and probably just needed new lamps, plus I knew from the Carfax that one of the light housings had to be replaced due to a small accident in the car's past. So I ordered these Phillips replacement lamps (fast delivery by the way). When I got home after work, I started right away to install these new lights, when much to my surprise I found out the lamps already in it were some cheesey LED type lamps which only projected on 4 sides to the perpendicular, so there was NO forward projection on axis with the bulb. No wonder I had no illumination down the road. The Phillips fixed that issue right away, with good projection on high beams. The low beams still seem rather limited with a distinct cutoff to darkness about 300 to 400 feet out (which I'm not used to, most older lamps just fade out beyond that), I don't think this is caused by the bulbs, I think it might be a limitation with the RAV4's light housing. In any case, the high beams project down the road now about 500 feet or so and with a good width of field, illuminating the sides of the road fairly well, but the fog lights do a better job by far. The light temperature is right, looking more like that of a low temp Xenon, but not blue despite the blue tinting on the bulbs. I loathe blue headlights, so it worked out for my eyes. I waited to well after dark to test drive with the new Phillips lamps. The projection down the road is vastly superior to the cheapo LED's (they aren't so cheap in price though, I saw here on Amazon that particular brand ran about $10 more than the Phillips set did). The high beams are necessary for the RAV4 to have good projection for more than a few hundred feet, though, so don't buy the basic packs that only have low beams in them, you'll be disappointed. I have yet to report on longevity, though lights in this class have lasted many years in my Dodge truck. What surprised me, though, is how light the Toyota's wiring was for nearly 60 Watts of power. Especially DC, I would have thought the headlamp wiring to be twice as thick as it is. I guess time will tell. The upshot of this story is, though, avoid all the LED lamps for the RAV4 that have no forward projection on the tip of the light, or you will be sorely disappointed. Else, just put back in the golden standard regular bulbs, they provide 360 degree light with no hot spots and takes full advantage of the RAV4's bouncy house of a light housing. You really need that diffusion of light to work correctly inside those reflective housings. Also, regarding the LED lamps, they have tiny fans on the heatsinks that can get clogged with bugs, mud or dust. It just doesn't make sense to replace headlamps with LED styled ones yet, especially if they need fans on the ends of them and can't project down the road properly. So far, the Phillips bulbs are a winner. Update: nine months later, the driver's side bulb is completely dead. The filament opened about 1/3 of the way from the top binding post, so therefore, no light in high or low beam. Amazon is supposed to have a one year warranty with Amazon, so I need to figure out how to do that. The Amazon warranty is what Phillip's warranty department told me about. ... show more

Perfect fit, easy to install (it only took me 10 minutes from start to finish), and I found out that the Phillips brand is the original brand used by the car manufacturer although Sylvania tends to be the leading product advertised.

  • A good upgrade (color and brightness) for people with 9006 bulbs who want the HID look without losing performance.
Style: 9012 Pattern Name: Bulb
I'm going to preface this by saying that I have no point of comparison to a regular 9012 bulb. I know a regular 9011 is far brighter and whiter than any of the HID-esque 9005 bulbs I had tried before (the best of which I tried being GE Lighting 9005NHP/BP2 Nighthawk Platinum High-Beam Headlight Bulbs, 2-Pack , so perhaps that holds true for 9012s versus 9006 blue-ish tint bulbs. What I will say is that I have been running these for a while as a replacement for 9006 SilverStar Ultras when I needed to replace my OEM HID housings with 9006 ones in an emergency, and the difference isn't that far pronounced. Certainly, these are definitely brighter than the 9006s the factory had (as they should be), despite the blue tint to them; and I will eventually go back to another set of the HID housings as soon as I can find one. And, again, I don't know how much worse they may or may not perform than a regular HIR2 bulb. But, while the difference is quite pronounced when you first power on the headlights (since HIDs start blue and then "warm up"), by the time you've been driving for twenty minutes or so these are very close in color to a set of nearly new 4300k HIDs. Close enough that the problems I was having with a stopgap HID kit I was putting in the halogen projectors in the meantime wasn't worth the fight to get them working. ... show more

I purchased and installed the pair in Jan 2020. It's now Oct 2023, and the driver's side went out. So, I put the old one back in, and then the passenger side went out a day later. *shrugs*
