Scent: Discovery Set 1.0
I have been trying for ages to find a scent that replicates a little grapefruit oleander roller ball cologne I used to get from go be lovely that has now been discontinued. It’s been like at least six to eight years and no luck, so whenever I get a chance to check out a sample of something with citrus and cedarwood or sandalwood notes, especially with grapefruit, I get excited. That is why I bought this sample pack; mainly to test drive Pink Canyon but also out of curiosity for the Capri Summer and Salt Air scents, especially based on the rave reviews. To be honest, all five scents really have knocked my socks off, it has been a while since I liked pretty much every scent by a line! By FAR my favorite is the Capri Summer, with the blood orange bergamot and neroli, that fragrance is phenomenal. It is unique and complex, memorable and personal and delicious. This is a fragrance that makes me feel like That Girl™️ My second favorite, which came as an absolute shock, was the Vanilla Sky. I as a pattern don’t tend to like food-y scents on me, and out of the box when I was swatching the scents it smelled delicious but I didn’t think it would be one I was going to want to wear. The joke is apparently on me because I find myself reaching for it constantly when I’m getting ready in the mornings. It goes so well on my sweaters while I drink my coffee on the way to work, it’s almost like wearing a coffee shop and so warm and comforting. It’d be like if fairy lights in a cozy cafe had a smell. Fabulous. Lately I’ve been layering it with my Jo Malone Orange Blossom cologne, which is a combo that is literally to die for. Surprisingly, in another upset, my least favorite was the pink canyon I actually bought the set for, but I’m not sure if that is actually a fair assessment because for some reason just that one scent compared to the others has a really strong alcohol smell, which makes me wonder if I somehow have a sample that was bottled at the very top or bottom or something that is separated or wasn’t mixed quite right. I really really wanted to like that one more than any of the others but it is alcohol-y to the point that it stings a little to breathe in if you put your nose to your wrist, even after a few hours of wear, which is why I wonder if that was the way it was supposed to be. The other two scents remind me of each other, but I especially like the Isle Escape of the two. I really like the sandalwood nose feel combined with the cardamom brightness, this is a great fragrance for work and for every day. I would wear Capri Summer as more of a nighttime, outdoor beach party, date night choice but I could easily imagine making it a signature scent. I would definitely pay for the full bottle of Capri Summer. All the scents have staying power I’m happy with, and don’t change too too much with long wear. The same notes that are on top at first spray stay detectable even after several hours. I’d say the average wear for these is six to eight hours, longer on clothes. My sweaters and coat are literally scrumptious from my two favorites. I’d have to do some more tests to work out throw. To be honest, not all of the spray nozzles work that well but enough of them work well enough that I wouldn’t complain for the price point and for the fact that it’s a sampler. I would expect a better applicator on the $90 bottle. It’s nice that they have spray nozzles at all instead of wands you have to pop on and off. None of mine came leaky, loose, or less than full. Overall a fantastic purchase, I definitely recommend if you like to change it up and smell different every day, or are hunting for your signature scent, or if you’re like me and have seasonal favorites you bounce between. Also, I almost forgot to mention but I really love the little box that the assortment comes in, the packaging is so thoughtful it keeps them together labeled clearly with the major notes in them so you know what you’re getting. Keeps them upright safe from breaking and they’re really easy to take out and put back in, plus it’s cute. You can tell some thought was put into it, down to the color design for the labels. Scent: Discovery Set 3.0
My first impression of each scent: Coconut Cove (Bergamot, Coconut, Ambrox): The description claims to be unique, exotic, and relaxing. This is a refreshing coconut, not a sweet coconut. Its giving sand dunes/summer breeze. Light enough to be an everyday scent or appropriate for a summer vacation! Vanilla Sky (Cappuccino, Vanilla, Cedar): I love the way this smells, but it’s a bit young for me. It smells like a warm/cozy creamy vanilla scent Victoria Secret had when I was in middle school. Not too strong, not too sweet. Still reminds me of a school aged girl. (I’m 27) Sunkissed Dahlia (Dahlia, Apple, Amber): Amber is probably one of my least favorite scents, but this scent is probably my favorite out of this set. Definitely a romantic floral, but delicate enough for everyday! Boardwalk Delight (Vanilla, Cotton Candy, Coconut Milk): I think this is the sweetest out of set. It truly smells like a vanilla cotton candy, but after it dries it loses a lot of sweetness which is kind of disappointing. Salt Air (Driftwood, Sea Salt, Seaweed): It claims to be a bare scent which makes sense. It’s woody and clean with the greenery scent of seaweed. These are all very universal. They can be used everyday or for a special ocassion. This would be a great gift for a high school girl or someone just starting to get into perfumes! I think the prices are reasonable. ... show more

Scent: Discovery Set 1.0
These are 5 tiny spray bottles. If you've not smelled these before, you'll want to get this sample kit because each is different and what I thought I'd like turned out to be not as appealing on my skin as some of the others. This is a good way to see if you like the smell and how it works with your body's chemistry in a variety of situations before you spend the money on the bigger roll on bottle, which I think is like $25+. I'm really glad I did this and now I have a couple I can put in my purse when I go out without dragging around a larger longer bottle that could break because they're in glass tubes. The scent doesn't last a long time but you can smell it farther away from your body than just if you sniff the spot you applied it to. Good purchase! ... show more

This was a good purchase, the scents smelled good yet similar, so layering was fun. However, every single scent had a heavy alcohol scent when first applied. The alcohol smell does dissipate but given the price of this brand I expected more quality. And that initial alcohol smell nearly ruined the experience of these scents for me. Of the five scents Vanilla Sky had the best scent with the least amount of alcohol smell upon application. I was hoping to love Coconut Cove but it was just ok for me with the Coconut scent being very light. I recommend this product overall as a good way to try this pricey brand, however I am apprehensive about buying a full sized bottle, due to the heavy alcohol smell. ... show more

    • Not a clean scent.
These smell like alcohol. They are not clean fragrances at all. And you can’t even return them. Very disappointed. I was looking forward to a good clean scent and I’ll have to throw them away now. Not only are they not clean but they don’t even smell decent because of the alcohol:(

    • Great Gift (or Stocking Stuffer) for Teens and Young Adults
Since I got it on sale, my sampler was $17.60 (including taxes). The usual price is $25. I would recommend buying it on sale. Not gonna lie, the bottles ARE tiny - but I still think these sample bottles are way more convenient than trying them on in-store with the little pieces of paper that department/cosmetic stores offer. I never feel like I can get an accurate reading on what a perfume smells like in a Sephora or whatever. You gotta try them on at home. The smells are light and airy, but last for several hours; I like spritzing them in my hair after a shower. These are convenient for storing in your purse for travel. After buying this set and sampling the different options, I went ahead and purchased Salt Air. ... show more
