I've been a rose fanatic since growing up with my family's heritage rose garden. You know, the old time roses that you could smell at ten feet away, making you swoon. Those lovely rose bushes are even hard to find these days, but not nearly as hard as it's always been to capture true rose essence in a bottle. I have tried so many that have left me disappointed until -- Paul Smith Rose. I gifted this fragrance to myself for a recent birthday based on an abundance of great reviews. I figured that since it wasn't a high end designer fragrance price, I had little to lose. I could always re-gift it, if it didn't work for me. The arrival of Paul Smith Rose was the highlight of my birthday. With the very first spray, I was enamoured. I had previously reviewed the notes and I could detect each and every one, as it began to settle from top to bottom notes, but (as described) the Turkish Rose and Magnolia are the HEART of this fragrance, after the opening act of violet, rose and green tea. It slowly settles to base notes of cedar and musk, but rose remains the star through the end. This is a subtle fragrance that won't walk into the room before you do. Some report it disappears far too soon, but I can wear it out in the evening, go to bed and still awaken with the pleasant wafts of rose. If you spray it in your hair, or on your clothing, it will be there until washed out. I'm delighted it doesn't begin to turn; it remains consistent, even on clothes I pull out of the laundry basket, days later. The addition of green tea allows this fragrance to have such a clean, crisp aroma. It's not the powdery, sweet, super floral that some feel is for 'seniors.' Although I'm one now, myself, I firmly feel this fragrance would appeal to ALL ages -- from teens to a hundred. On a side note, I'm often troubled with allergies with certain fragrances, having to give away some very expensive purchases in the past. I believe Paul Smith Rose uses quality essences and doesn't put too many acts into the play, enabling a fragrance kind to the nose and airway. I have absolutely NO noted allery response to this rose. I even apply some on my pillow at bedtime. If this was the only positive for this fragrance, I'd be happy, but with everything else, I'm going to stock-up. I've read that it may have been, or will be discontinued. Oh why! I only just found it! If you'd love a subtle rose fragrance that will make you smile a few times a day, as you move about, with the fragrance greeting your senses, then this is one to try. I purchased a smaller bottle of Paul Smith Rose perfume in 2011 and fell in love. I used it sparingly, worried that I would not be able to find it again, but was delighted to find it on Amazon, and a larger bottle for the same price that I paid for the small bottle while abroad. The perfume is light and elegant, not the pungent and sickly sweet that many "English Rose" scented sprays boast. It does not linger strongly, so if you are looking for a bold rose scent that has a wide radius, this is not for you. This is more of a "hug scent" (a pleasant surprise for those already blessed with a hug from you!). In that way, it does linger throughout the day. The smaller bottle is easier on the hand for application, and perfect for someone exploring to find their signature. The larger bottle is for the confident... and for those of us who are fearful that we won't be able to find it in the future. ... show more

My wife loves the scent of roses and has planted many of them around our house. I bought this for her for Mother's Day and she and I love the scent. She sprays it on her pillows at bedtime and she couldn't be more pleased with it. I will probably be purchasing this product again when she starts to get low in supply soon.
