Upon opening the box, at first glance I thought Amazon had sent me a black pen. The plum color is very dark, not the vibrant fruit color in Amazon's picture; it's more of a blackish shade with plum/brown/burgundy undertones, depending on the quality of your lighting and eyesight. Otherwise it's a nice pen, although weighted toward the top (as another reviewer pointed out in a review of the blue/silver version); the Parker Sonnet ballpoint I have is better balanced. I must say for the price of this pen it was such a letdoown. I also have a Parker sonnet and a waterman careen model that not only cost less but have much higher value and build quality. The Plum barrel are literally just plastic. I see his pen being OVERPRICED almost to the point of sucmmy. the barrel of this pen is nothing more then thin cheap plastic. I actually had fallen in love with the look of htis pen from the amazon photos but in person I almost wonder if I have a contierfit version. I have returned this item and will purchasing another Brand or model of fountain pen. ... show more

Parker have always been a memory trigger for me. They remind me of my early school days. Learning to write with an ink pen. Parker was always what I wanted. I inherited my grandfathers silver Parker pen. It is very beautiful abd reminds me of him. This one was like my grandmothers. Happy memorie!

The Parker pen 51 edition is advertised with a brilliant purple barrel with gold cap. However, the pen color does not appear purple when received but rather a dark brown or almost black color. Very disappointing for a Parker pen lover.
