  • Works, but lacks feedback on tone.
Color: Black
It does a great job of reducing noise. It's much softer than a harmon mute, even. There are a couple of issues: 1) The intonation is good in the low/middle register, but as you ascend to the high register, it gets a bit flat. 2) There is no feedback on your actual tone quality, just like with some other kinds of mutes. You can intentionally play with bad tone, but you won't sound much different from when you making an effort for good tone (when the mute is being used). So, really, you really shouldn't use it unless you have no other choice. Still, it's definitely worth getting considering the low price! ... show more

  • Works great!
Color: Black
Deffinently makes the trumpet really quiet. I used to use a Harmon mute and it would still annoy my parents in the other room. Now with this mute I can play without worrying about bothering my parents or neighbors. It deffinently takes the sound down and I can feel my trumpet vibrate when I use it and it doesn't let you play as freely as you would without it but that's the only down side of this mute. But overall worth it for the money. ... show more

  • Not durable, but does block the sound
Color: Black
Got one of these for each of my two teen trumpet players. The sound blocking is GREAT. Both kids have no issues playing with this mute in place, and it has encouraged them to practice a lot more. BUT both mutes had an annoying, tinny vibration when used. We put electrical tape on one of them, around the end, to alleviate that vibration. Both have fallen apart after a couple of weeks of near-daily use. One part gets stuck inside the trumpet bell and you have to reach in to get it out. ... show more

  • Great practice mute
Color: Black
My son has 2 of these and he uses them every day to practice at home and warm up at school. Makes having a trumpet player in the house a little easier on the ears and the neighbors appreciate it as well!

  • Best practice mute I've owned or tried
I am a professional trumpet player and teacher. I own MANY different practice mutes and was never happy with any... until now. Some cost $100 or more, including Yamaha Silent Brass and a copy of the Best Brass (Protec Liberty) and a few others whose names I can't remember. I've always hated playing with practice mutes as the "blow" is so much different that other than helping to keep my "chops" in shape I have avoided using them as much as possible. I was at one of my student's homes earlier and saw this mute sitting on a nearby table. It looked curious. "Pampet"? Never heard of it. I popped it in my horn and was really surprised at how little back-pressure it produced. I was carrying a Best Brass copy and popped it in for comparison. No contest. The Pampet was only slightly louder than the the Protec Liberty but MUCH easier to play. I HAD to order one which I did immediately. This mute is made out of some sort of plastic but feels like it has different densities throughout. It comes in a fancy box and wrapped in a velvet bag, much like Crown Royal whiskey(?). I couldn't help but think the bag cost more to make than the must. The front of the mute has a plastic piece that looks like a large plastic washer. I have no idea of the physics of it, but not only does it quiet the trumpet to very low levels I can feel the vibration of the horn in my hand! I've never experienced that before. My first test was about 8:30pm at home where my grandson was asleep. My daughter often shushes me if I talk in a normal voice which is often stifling (I won't get into that). Without saying a word, I took my trumpet and mute to the basement and played for a few minutes then came back up. My wife, daughter an son-in-law were on the couch on the first floor, right above where I was playing. Not a word about my playing. They didn't even know. A lot of players don't get enough practice time in because they work or go to school and they don't have a secluded place to practice away from family. I think this mute is a game changer. For people like me who need both free blowing and good tactile resonse this mute can ge a godsend. From a practical purpose I don't think you'll find a better practice mute at any price, except for the 2nd generation Yamaha Silent Brass for $150-$200. ... show more

  • Great for beginners/ Not for advanced trumpeters
Color: Black
It does a great job muting the sound, and the backpressure is very low. What I wasn’t to thrilled about was the sound. The buzzing is very noticeable to a trained ear, and I’m adjusting my armature far too much in order to correct the pitch with the mute in despite the instrument being perfectly tuned. I can’t say I even like the sound of brass notes passing through plastic. Something about it doesn’t fall quite right on the ear. Not sure I’m even willing to use this for practice, unfortunately. ... show more
