Like many people, I'm working from home now due to COVID. I decided that it would be nice to take advantage of a spare monitor, and an unused desk that was not designed for computer use, to set my laptop up on a shelf above the desktop itself. In a "give a mouse a cookie" series of events, this led to moving a small desktop computer's CPU up to the same desk, with the acquisition of a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch so I could use the two without moving any plugs, etc. and it became clear that the upper shelf did not have room for all of this clutter without things falling down at random. A "rack" to hold all the components vertically seemed the ideal solution but there are, surprisingly, very few solutions for this sort of thing. With the proliferation of small external devices, this is pretty surprising, but I kept looking, and happened across this stand. Pro: It holds most of my devices fairly well. Maybe not as nicely as something designed for that specific purpose - but something like that does not exist. It fits well on the desk's hutch. The cables are a mess (see photo) but that was going to be a problem no matter what: I've got a CPU, the KVM switch (with cables to the laptop, the monitor, and the standalone CPU), an external hard drive, an external DVD drive, and a power brick on the thing, not to mention charging cables for my phone and my headset. Nothing would remove the spaghetti-ness from this setup! Con: Despite the title ("assembled") it is NOT pre-assembled, and it was kind of a pain in the neck to put together. Lots of screws, into partially-drilled starter holes, and I did it wrong at first and had to restart it partway through. Hint: read the instructions / diagrams very carefully before starting (I just noticed the component part number stickers still on a couple of the shelves)!! It took something like an hour, when all was said and done. I don't know how sturdy it would be under heavy loads - like, say, a pile of books - but for my use, the components are all light enough that I'm not concerned. I was a bit concerned that the screw heads might scratch the surface of the hutch. They didn't appear to extend beyond the shelf's surface, but to be safe I added some silicone feet to raise it slightly. That also has the side benefit of adding a bit of friction to the unit, meaning it's less likely to slide due to bumps or vibration. I think this would be a good idea for anyone, no matter how you plan to use this unit. ... show more

I wish the shelves were a tad longer (my books go over the edge), but that’s an incredibly minor inconvenience that doesn’t seem to be affecting the functionality at all. It’s stupid sturdy and was easy to assemble. I’ve been wanting to display some books, but they either take up too much desk space or fall over. The four books (to the right of the Batman comic) are for school, and I’ve been wanting to keep them out and easily accessible. This thing is great. ... show more

This Desktop Shelf is perfect for what I wanted. VERY GOOD packaging, Not a nick or scratch. Instructions are easy to follow. Lay out the pieces and assemble on something like a table. A lot of reviews said that the hardware was crap. I used my cordless drill and a hand full of REAL drywall screws the same length as what they shipped. When lining up the pieces, start the screw with your fingers, with a screwdriver, tighten the screw just deep enough to keep the piece attached. After semi assembly, go back and tighten the screws. Depending on your skill level, don't have any "other plans" for about 45 minutes. If your planning to put something heavy on the shelf, ya might want to use some angle brackets. For 25 bucks, I'm thinking about getting another one. ... show more

Just what I was looking for. Initially wanted to place on top of my desk but it was too big so I have it next to it. Easy to set up. Comes with screwdriver but I used my own for a better grip. Pay attention to where you screw screws in because the first time I put the shelved the other way around. The side with the bigger holes is where you screw in so that way they are all the way in without screw sticking out. Very strurdy. Also ordered the pink notebook and therapy light from Amazon and love how the notebook stands out and the light fits prefect in it. ... show more
