  • Two have failed rapidly after 24/7 use under advertised capacity
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
Here's the thing: I bet these work great if you aren't passing a lot of power through them. If you get anywhere close to their maximum capacity, they will fail. I've had two fail on me now running a consistent 1200 watts through them. I don't know if these just weren't designed to have that much power passing through them 24/7, but clearly I need a beefier solution. If they can't handle the power for extend periods of time, they should lower the advertised power rating. If you are passing less than 1000 watts continuously through these, I'm sure they're fine. ... show more

  • A poor "upgrade"
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
I decided to upgrade to the P4460. This was a mistake for the following reasons: - The menu and reset buttons on my P4460 rarely worked. I had to press them a dozen+ times to get them to register once. The other buttons were more reliable, but still not 100%. That's very bad for a brand new device. - The LCD display of the P4460 was much harder to read than the P4400. - The P4460 failed to display wattage for low-wattage loads. Anything under 9 watts often showed as zero watts. That's useless for my applications. So I've returned the P4460 and migrated back to my P4400. ... show more

  • Cannot handle 1500watts even though specs sat 1850watts.
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
I bought this 2 years ago and it has worked great on everything, up until a month ago when I put it on a 1500watt floor heater to see how much it would cost me to heat up my office instead of running the boiler in my basement. Unfortunately it melted somehow and now doesn't work at all. So I'm not sure why it's cooked because it says it can handle 1850watts which is more than 1500watts... so I think they misprinted their specs. A year ago I would have said 5 starts but now I would say 2 stars because it can't do what they said it could. ... show more

  • Failed after 1 year
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
This product is rated 1800w, 15a x 120v, but it gave up yesterday after connection to my new computer gig! No warning, nothing, just black screen. I opened and the thing has NO fuse inside, they replaced it with a copper wire! I would stay away of this. BTW, my computer was drawing around 550w when this happened. ... show more

  • 11A-1300W with ~4 hr/day use - Lasted 3 Weeks
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
Stopped working after 3 weeks of use. It was plugged into an 11amp-1300W heater that would run approximately 4 hours a day. After 3 weeks the display went blank and the heater would not turn on when plugged into the Kill A Watt. The heater worked fine when bypassing the Kill A Watt and plugging directly into the outlet. Tested the Kill A Watt on multiple outlets around the house and it is not working. After reading around it sounds like the thermal fuse likely blew, which is fixable, but since I've had it for less than a month and can still return it I will be. ... show more

  • Awesome idea. Works well, but DO NOT use with anything near the max rated specs (115V, 15A, 1875W) or it will burn up.
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
Four stars because its max volt/amp ratings are faulty and it could use a redesign. But other then that it works great. I have used this for over 6 months. It works well to monitor any low volt/amp device. I have had it hooked up to my gaming PC (i5-4670k OC'ed, 750w PSU, GTX 770) including 25" monitor, speakers, desk lamp, large fan and a few phone chargers for over two months with no problems. I have tested countless small devices, laptops, lights, fans, fridges, coffee makers etc with no problems. Now for the problems. The max ratings are a joke. It is rated at 125V 15A 1875W. There are countless reviews showing melted, burned, or just plain broken P4460's when attempting to monitor anything close to the max. I had it hooked up to a heater that pulls between 500-1100W at about 9-10A max. This is WELL within the rated specs, actually quite a bit lower then the max specs. And within 3 days the unit burned out and quit working. I sent it back and got another unit and decided not to test anything that is 1000W or more. This unit also needs a redesign. If they simply included a 1 foot optional extension cord it would solve most of the problems. The unit is large and bulky and covers up both outlets on a standard 2 outlet. It also has no backlight so you need to bring a flashlight if it is located in a dim area to be able to read the display. Adding a short extension cord allows you to regain your second outlet and also move it around to catch the light better when you are trying to read the display. Overall I love the idea, it is awesome to be able to figure out exactly how much power a deceive is truly using instead of relying on theoretical calculations based on manufacturer specs. I recommend this product but DO NOT use it with 1000+watt heaters or anything that even comes close to the max rated specs. ... show more

  • Do not overload!
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
I have been using this Kill A Watt for some time now and it still works well. I have used it on some devices with known power usage and it seems to be very accurate. Be sure to enter the correct charge per kilowatt hour from your power company. 3/7/2016 UPDATE - While using the Kill A Watt with a Vornado space heater, the Kill A Watt overloaded and it's socket burned and melted. Needless to say, it no longer works. I called the company about this and all they could tell me ( other than that they would not replace it) was not to use it with space heaters. It seems to me that of all the devices for which you would want to know the cost of operation a space heater would be at the top of the list. There is no warning in the documentation about this use. So if you want to check low wattage, low amperage devices this is for you. ... show more

  • Not robust nor worth the money
Size: 1 Pack Color: grey
I've had my unit about 5 years and used it on 3 appliances for a total use time of about 4 months. Last week I plugged it into a space heater and when I checked the readings yesterday morning all was normal. Sometime in the afternoon I noticed the space heater light was off and discovered it was not getting power because the P4460 had died. The space heaters AMPS & Watts are within the range for this device but with less then 5 months of use in 5 years it's now junk. ... show more
