My previous gooseneck kettle's handle broke (a different brand), spilling boiling water on me resulting in terrible burns. While I was getting rid of it, I saw that there was a max fill line INSIDE the steel kettle, where I had never seen it. That's one reason I bought this kettle, because OXO makes products based on safe use by the consumer, and this one fits the bill exactly. I love this kettle, and we've used it many times a day for almost four years. Unfortunately the heating element went bad, and there doesn't seem to be any remedy but to buy another one. Pros: - Pretty - Elegant, intuitive controls - Quiet - Holds the temperature for 30 mins - Precise temperature controls Cons - Stinky in the beginning. We had to wash it a lot with dish soap and boil it with vinegar and baking soda about 5 times to get the plastic smell out. - Temperature dial won't go lower than 77deg C - Broke after four years of heavy use. Ok so four years of heavy use is probably as good as any kettle out there. I guess the gripe would be it's not serviceable, and they don't sell replacement carafes. Hated this kettle originally. Actually wrote a bad 1* review but I kept playing with it wondering what I was missing. The Good: - Beautiful kettle, Being able to see the water is really nice and it's pretty on my counter - Heats up fast - Quiet The Annoying: - There's a sticker that you must peel off to see the temp changes. It wasn't clear to me, and I thought the control was faulty. - I didn't understand why the temp wasn't increasing past 100. That's because it was in Celsius. If you press the button for 5 seconds it will toggle from C to F and then you'll see the # go to 212 Fahrenheit. - All of this would have been helpful in the instruction booklet. Is it worth $100? I've done a lot of research on electric kettles and have returned many, but with this kettle I'm finally able to stop looking. My criteria for an electric kettle is very simple: no plastic touching the water, temperature control, and ability to see the water level. There are many electric kettles on Amazon that meet this criteria but I ended up returning them due to various factors such as poor build quality, weird smell, rust, inaccurate temperature, etc. This electric kettle meets all my criteria and is almost perfect, with almost being the key word. I can't quite give it five stars since there are a few inconveniences, and a five star rating is reserved for products that do their job perfectly. This review is based on my use of this kettle after a day of heavy use and testing. If anything changes such as the temperature reading no longer being accurate, glass breaks, it doesn't stop boiling, etc. I will update this review. But so far I am amazed by this product and relieved that I've finally found an acceptable electric kettle. Anyways, here are the pros and cons with an in-depth explanation for each: Pros: - Great build quality - Sleek design - Simple controls - Accurate temperature - Quiet - Keep warm function Cons: - Small opening - Lip near the top - No insulation - Hard to see water levels ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pros Great build quality When I took this kettle out of the box I immediately felt how much better the build quality is compared to the ones I've returned. Of course with this kettle costing $100 it's pretty close to the upper limit of what I'd be willing to spend on an electric kettle, but the extra $30-$50 over similar products of poor build quality is worth it since spilling boiling hot water is one of the last things you'd want. Sleek design Pretty self explanatory. Both the kettle and the base look great. Simple controls The button turns the kettle on or off, and can be rotated to set the temperature. Other electric kettles have you pressing a button multiple times to increment the temperature in steps of 5-10, or choosing from pre-selected temperatures. This electric kettle lets you select the exact temperature you want without any unnecessary buttons. Additionally, this will remember the temperature you set even after being turned completely off. I always unplug my electric kettles when I'm not using them and it's convenient that this will remember, for example, 190 and I don't have to turn the knob at all if I want that temperature again. Accurate temperature This electric kettle not only lets you select the exact temperature you want to boil you water to but actually heats it up to that temperature within a very narrow margin of error. I've tested the displayed temperature versus a thermometer's readings multiple times and they have never been off by more than two degrees. While I'm not going to notice the difference in less than five degrees, the other electric kettles that I've tested would be +/- 10 degrees from the temperature I selected. Quiet This heats up water as fast as other electric kettles I've tried with much less noise. I can barely hear it. Fortunately it beeps once when it's finished heating up the water. Keep warm function This electric kettle's keep warm function will turn on after water cools down by as little as one to two degrees. Other electric kettles I've had wait until the temperature drops by as much as 10 degrees before heating it back up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cons Small opening This makes the kettle difficult to stick my hand in to clean it. I have a very small wrist and can't turn my hand in the kettle. I have to wipe one side, take my hand out, then wipe the other side. As a result I would not heat up anything in this besides water. Lip near the top The lip on the inside near the top makes it near impossible to get the last few droplets of water out when pouring. Not a big deal; I usually leave the lid open when I'm not using it and it'll evaporate. No insulation It's a con but I've seen no electric kettle with glass sides that has an insulated side to protect you when there's hot water inside so this doesn't affect the rating. Hard to see water levels The water levels are lightly printed in a very small font near the handle so I have to bring my head close to see them. I'm just nitpicking here but eh. ... show more

Have bought this twice. First kettle still works great. The second one, since i bought it, gave a funky taste to the water. Finally, almost two years later, and with infrequent use, this rust like spot started to show on the temperature nipple, revealing the real issue. My guess, it's a bad seal and something bad and toxic is leaking into the water. Caveat Emptor. Going to call in the two year warranty. UPDATE 3/20/23: Amended from 1 star to 4 stars. I made the claim and they immediately responded and sent me a replacement unit with no hassle. Still have to try it out and ensure it works. ... show more
