Y’all, I LOVE this hat! I wore it EVERYDAY at the beach. I have red hair, freckles and fair skin. Skin cancer runs in my family so sun safety is important to us. Every year I buy a hat and then never wear it again. They either flop around too much or are uncomfortable or something. It’s always something. Maybe it’s me?! Lol! Anywho.. I’m picky. This is the first hat of MANY that I actually enjoyed wearing. It was light and comfortable and cute too! I loved the drawstring feature. I was able to secure the hat tightly against my head before heading into the ocean. It got wet and beat down from the waves but didn’t get lost! Lol! And because of its material, it dried quickly! Let me begin this review by stating that I have a surprisingly large head. No one believes it's as large as it is, yet my head doesn't fit in most women's hats - or men's hats, for that matter. Purchasing hats is an ordeal for me, and one that I rarely put myself through, but here we are. I needed a sun hat for a beach trip, and this one promised to fit. And fit it does. Yes, it's a little snug, and sure, the hat doesn't seem quite as deep as it looks in the photos. I'm old and bald, so I need to protect my scalp where I used to have really nice, thick blond hair to do that. These days I have a collection of hats. This seems like a pretty good hat for hiking, fishing, rafting or gardening. Great price and seems well made. Updated, I just got back from a 6 day/5 night rafting trip down the Yampa river, into the Green river. This hat was an essential part of my kit. It kept the sun off of my face, kept the rain out of my eyes and several times was dunked in the river to keep me cool when the sun was blazing. After being diagnosed with a basal cell lesion on the top of my head, I was told that I had to wear a hat whenever I was out in the sun. It has been known by everyone that I HATE hats, and being told to have to wear one is the pits. However, when this hat arrived I tried it on and was very pleased how lightweight it is. I have damage in one of my eyes which flares up in horrible pain if sunlight gets to it. That being said, I went on a cross-country road trip and knew that I would be in a lot of sunlight and also in a lot of heat. So I spent over a month researching sun protection hats, specifically for smaller heads, but not a children’s hat because I had to ensure I’d have the side coverage, and I chose this one in the end. And I am so glad I did! Not only did it give great sun protection: It doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing a hat - very light weight Kept the sun out of my eyes! The side brims are flexible and don’t get bent out of shape even if you roll it up to stuff in a backpack The top part has a mesh portion that is adjustable so I was able to make it fit my head perfectly (I have a teenager’s sized head) The loop that hangs down is adjustable - you can tighten it all the way up to your chin if it’s windy and it won’t go anywhere! You can also put it behind the back and it’s out of your way The inside brim is very comfortable and breathable - even in 100 degree temps In the desert I watered it down and the top stayed cool even though the brim dried quickly Everyplace we stopped there was at least one person that came up to me to ask me where I got my hat- many compliments on style esp with how great the coverage was I drove cross country for 24 days and wore this EVERY DAY in every type of weather and it did not fade or fray anywhere. It’s by far the best hat I’ve ever found for my condition. And, I would recommend hands down for traveling, hiking, beach, yard work or anyone that needs sun protection for eyes and face. I will be purchasing another one in a different color and also ones for my parents. For sizing - this would work perfect on teenage, small amd med sized head. Although we have several hats in our collection for our children, with summer approaching in South Florida I purchased these specifically for the vented mesh around the top of the hat. My children get very sweaty running around in the sun, and the deep brim and mesh crown make hat-wearing bearable. They fit my seven year old perfectly. The fit is wide with room for growth on the two year old. However he wore it and did not complain so I consider it a win. The hat is well-priced for the quality and I won’t feel too bad if it gets left behind. Love the adjustable chin and crown straps. Love all the colors too.
