I took a chance on this inexpensive 2 stroke for my 79 Gheenoe. I only paid $400 for the boat, so I couldn't see spending a ton on an outboard. Upon receiving it I was surprised that the gear oil was already filled. I switched out the spark plug with a Bosche and read the manual, which is sketchy at best. I broke it in in a 55 gal barrel with water above the cavitation plate as this is water cooled. I had trouble getting it started at first, until I checked the kill switch and found the plastic nut was loose. I carefully tightened it and it started right up. I ran it at idle for and hour. I did this every day for about four days. I the would Rev it half throttle and so on over a week until I had it running at full, first for 10 minutes and working up to an hour. Note here that the stickers for the fuel shut off, the choke, and the speed indicator are all back words, so 10 is idle and off is full. Must have got lost in the translation, but doesn't affect performance. I took it out on the lake today for the first time, and I couldn't be happier. On a 15.4 ft. Gheenoe with over 400 lbs of gear and people it pushed us right along. I would estimate 10 to 15mph, not too shabby for a cheap 3.5 hp. The motor preformed flawlessly. It starts on the first or second pull every time. I stopped and started it probably a dozen time on the lake. I would definitely recommend this outboard especially at the price. ... show more
