  • Good price for an entry level practice GuQin
Color: Fuxi Style
I was worried about this GuQin, but eventually I received with decent package, the GuQin protected well, only one light scratch on the body, but I’m fine with it overall. If I purchased a professional one with more expensive price I would not be happy with any scratch. I measured the strings height for string 1,4 and 7 from YueShan are : 20mm, 19mm and 18mm. But normally we will measure it from the dot 7, the strings height are : 8mm, 6mm and 7mm. At Dot 7 the string 1,4,7 High are1mm grater than the strict GuQin standard in China if you are picky. From my point of view the 1mm gap is acceptable which good enough to not stuck my fingers when I playing. Some friend may think this is a consideration point. The wood material is not my favorite to be honest, from the LongChi and Fengzhao you can see the pics I took the wood is cheap and rough, and the gap are big I can easily put my hand in, normally it means it rely on the GuQin have a bigger empty belly we call resonance (LongChi, FengZhao) to resonate the voice instead of the wood material itself. (That’s why a better and professional GuQin use better older wood and sure, more expensive). This is pretty common for entry level Guqin because they are cheap, they will not use over 100 years great old fir wood or great two types of old wood combined if they need to keep the price lower. I believe they used Paulownia wood for this one which is cheaper. I personally would like fir wood instead because the wood will make the strings voice more clear and echo better. Like I said for this price I only expect a normal GuQin on the standard for beginner practice. That’s fair for me. But if you are above mid level or you are really picky about the wood material you may consider a professional one instead of the beginner one. Another thing I noticed is I have to adjust the strings tone almost every week to keep it in tune. If you know how to tune then, this wouldn’t be an issue. If not, You can easily find online app to support this happen if you understand Chinese language.that’s what I did. I like the paint not stinks, normally if you get a cheap Guqin they would use chemical paint which it will dry quicker and cheaper, also less labor, some paint are lack of base layers to cheap it out which it will affect the resignation and sounds. I’m not sure if this happened on this one, but I appreciate this one not smells stink the whole room. You know cheap chemical paint will have higher formaldehyde and you will have let it in opened circulated room for long time to get rid of that smells, and also may bad for your health. This one seems okay to me. I know I will get a professional eventually, so this one for me who is a beginner and curious about learning GuQin is a decent purchase consider America GuqQin price and there is no physical instrument store actually sell GuQin nearby me within 100miles drive. So far, I’m happy with this purchase. I also took pic about what the whole product come with, hope that will be helpful for you guys. I need to correct it here which they give 7 strings instead only four in the picture I took, because I mixed few strings till I regrouped it find out they give all seven strings . Thank you . My suggestion is if you have no idea how to pick a Guqin, and you are looking for something to start, you don’t want go to China in person to buy it and bring back to USA with you, you want learn but you never played before, you don’t want spend over thousand dollars for a professional one when you lack of education about GuQin and consider get a better one later once you feel more confident, I think this one is not a bad purchase. Once you are better at it, go to this Country and visit the physical GuQin store and Factory to touch it, smell it, play it, hear it there in person before you purchase a professional one later on. ... show more

  • Ridiculously good for the money
Color: Zhongni Style
If you are like me, you are looking at this because you have found the guqin captivating, and think you would like to learn it, but you aren't entirely sure -- and you want to spend as little as possible while still getting a good enough instrument to learn on. This is probably the guqin you want. Full disclosure - I'm a westerner who has very little familiarity with the instrument, and I do not have anything to compare it to... but I have bough several stringed instruments in many price ranges, and I have seen the best and the worst of them. This is, of course, not going to match up with a hand carved instrument from the finest woods available. But you likely knew that. When I ordered this, I expected it to take a month and a half. It came in in just over two weeks - extremely well packed, as well. It was surprisingly close to being in tune, so the setup seems solid. It didn't take long to refine the tuning and just start experimenting. There's a slight laquer smell, but nothing offensive, and it largely dissipated after opening the package. It shipped with an instructional book (in Chinese, as you'd expect) and a couple of bits of a "no slip" mat and a microfiber - and a soft case. I'm assuming the no-slip bits are to place under the instrument when you lean it up against the wall, assuming you aren't hanging it up. At least that's what I'm using it for. (Edit: this wasn’t the intention, it’s for putting under the tuning pegs and the goose feet- but it also works good for how I use it) The guqin itself? In short, I am blown away by the quality of this for what I paid. I've spent about this much on other instruments, and I've had them come in poorly packed, or with rusty strings, or some other problem. No problems here. The dots line up where you'd expect them to on the scale, and everything feels tightly assembled - I have no concerns about the durability of the instrument. Placing it on my table and trying to play, I can't help but smile - the sound travels quite nicely through the table to the floor, and you can feel it in your feet. Moving it to my lap, it is subdued enough to learn on without disturbing others. Again, I can't compare to other guqins, but this is so much better than anything I expected for the price. It reminds me of the plywood Kay Cellos/Basses in terms of how it feels - solid, good to learn on, and playable, but probably not what you'd take as the lead into a concert hall. But, you know, 1/10th the price. It's a bit too early to say how this holds up long term - I'll come back in a while with more to say, but for now I am completely surprised in the best possible way at this. Even if you just like the look of this and want to hang it up on your wall, you'll be happy with this, but I believe this will be a great instrument to learn on. ... show more

  • Awesome customer service!
Color: Fuxi Style
I ordered this beautiful guqin along with a Dizi and waited patiently for their arrival. by the time the expected delivery date had passed I began to worry and contacted the seller and was shocked out how quickly they responded! (almost immediately) The order had some how been lost in transit and they quickly did everything needed to be done to send me a brand new order after confirming it was not placed at my home. My new order arrived MUCH faster than what the original order had said it would take and I am so happy with my purchase. The guqin sounds amazing and I've not yet tried out the Dizi but I know it will also sound amazing! This seller loves music and all other musicians and will MAKE SURE you are 100% satisfied with your order. 10/10 would recommend! ... show more

  • Beautiful instrument. But you may need to have patience on the delivery!!!
Color: Fuxi Style
The instrument was well packed and is lovely. My problem is I don't really know how to play it yet, but it just takes some practice. The other issue is I need to figure out how to tune it. I don't know if they can make them with guitar-style tuners, but it might make it easier for us beginners. But please be warned that you may have delays like I did before receiving your order. I think they may have sent a second one because it took so long to arrive. Unlike most of you I had a lot of patience and do not distrust Chinese people just because they are Chinese. Even so, I did worry a little about getting my order. In the end I was rewarded by getting something that was as good or better than I expected. This is an unpaid and uncompensated review. ... show more
