I have had many electric toothbrushes in my life, but the Oral B Genius has some key features that puts it in a league of its own. There is a two-minute timer, and it also alerts the user at 1/4 intervals, in case you are brushing in four quadrants. The best feature is a red light when you are brushing too hard. And if you really want a gold star from your dentist, you can connect to an app on your smart phone which assesses the quality of your brushing and points out areas where you may need more focused effort. The battery recharges overnight and then stays charged for a solid week. There are many other features, too, like different speeds and settings if you want some variety, plus different brush heads.     • Reconsider travel case

We have used Oral B electric toothbrushes for very many years and have been very happy with their cleaning ability and ease of use. Our last one was finally on its last legs so we upgraded to this model. It is WAY more powerful than our previous one so has taken time to get used to. Also, we thought the travel case was a nice idea - as we travel (or used to pre CoVid). However, after getting we realized it might not be worth the extra money. We still have to pack the power cord - just not the little round charging unit. That is all you save in packing space. I was hoping we could add our toothpaste or floss into the travel case but cannot do. In retrospect, I would not get the version with travel case and just carry the toothbrush base and charging cube separately, I could pack them around other items in my suitcase. Yes, there is an additional USB port to charge my iPhone, etc but I already pack those items. For us, packing the toothbrush handle, the toothbrushes, the power cord and small charging stand are easier to pack. Would have save us $50 or so. But, the toothbrush itself is great and I would recommend it to anyone. I can't speak to the bluetooth connectivity or their program as we do not use it. ... show more

I had a problem with the Bluetooth connectivity after 3 months. I contacted amazon support and they talked me through how to get it reset. this did not work initially so the technician put me in contact with an Oral B technician who walked me through the reset procedure and now it is working again. Nothing to do with the brush but rather my phone needed to be reset. The only reason for 1 star less on the Bluetooth connectivity is because it stopped working even though it was of no fault of Oral B Genesis X toothbrush. ... show more

    • Bad product, bad customer service

The Good: o teeth feel clean after brushing The Bad: o grip is too slippery once wet o Bluetooth app' doesn't track teeth properly, almost useless o designed-in failure after warranty period o very expensive o poor customer service I used this toothbrush for 2 years 4 months. After giving up on the app' and dealing with constant frustration with the grip, recently, the motor simply stopped working, battery life has degraded, but is still good and can fully charge. I contacted customer service who explained that the expected life for these models is 4 years, but the warranty is only 2 years. Of course, I'm just the wrong side of the warranty. I asked why, if they expected life is 4 years that the warranty only covers 2 years - no response. They said they will send a voucher for money off another toothbrush. I Paid $160 for this toothbrush two years ago, it's now $200+. Will not be using Oral B again. ... show more

When I asked my dental hygienist which electric toothbrush brand she would recommend, Oral B was the brand sh recommended (as do many dentists). I chose this one because of the universal charger (have not traveled with it yet so I cannot rate that feature) as well other features. I have used it for almost a month. Here is my take so far: Pros: - Charges relatively quickly and the charge lasts between 1-2 weeks (assuming you brush 2x per day for the recommended 2 minutes) - Has visual alerting (color band on the toothbrush base) turns red if you apply too much pressure - You can customize the color of the color band on the base (if that matters to you) - It has six (6) cleaning modes (although one mode does not have an indicator on the base) - So far, works as advertised. Cons - Fairly loud; not louder than any other electric toothbrush, just louder relative to manual brushing. Just an adjustment when you switch from a manual brush to electric toothbrush. - The phone app (I am using the IOS version) is not great. I initially had problems with the app not recording the entire brushing session when I would switch cleaning modes on the toothbrush. This seems to have gone away in the last week. The app is not set up well and definitely could use a once-over by someone with a user-experience background. It lost about a week of data; it still does not record my flossing (I think that is because the app is poorly designed to actually record when you floss). It sometimes coaches well but other times it seems to miss the fact that you have brushed your teeth sufficiently. Bottom line - purchase a less costly version that does the same thing and skip the app. ... show more
