  • GREAT driving/flying rig! Buy it, you'll love it!
Color: black
Short version: this seat is well-built, sturdy, easy to assemble and highly customizable. The customer service is incredible, truly above and beyond. I could not be happier with the purchase. So if you're going to buy a rig, buy this one. Also, if you're trying to decide whether you need a rig, allow me to offer this advice: you need a rig. Just buy this; you will not regret it. Longer version: I have now had this rig about 18 months. I bought it for both driving and flying in Virtual Reality using a Vive Index. For cars I use pretty high end Fanatec wheel/shifter/pedals, and for planes I use a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS with Logitech pedals. I wanted a rig that I could switch in between those two modes without too much trouble. I googled heavily and looked at over a dozen options, including a few that were over $1000. Few of them seemed setup well for both activities, and even those that were seemed like they would be painful to switch. This one had a smart design and great reviews, so I gave it a shot. I have been thoroughly impressed ever since. First, the kit: it's perfect. With the extension (more on that in a bit) it's perfectly positioned for both activities. The driving pedals/wheel attach with one knob; the flight pedals use that same attachment and the HOTAS (and gearshift on the rare occasions I use it) go on the arms of the chair with two knobs each. I can switch between driving and flying in about 2-3 minutes, and whichever set I'm not using fits easily in a hallway coat closet. Whichever setup I'm in, it's completely rock-solid. The steering wheel was decently solid even before they sent me an improved attachment plate (again, more below) for free. There are also multiple positions for the HOTAS (center stick/side stick) and shifter (left/right). The chair is comfortable, has adjustable tilt, and the position of the wheel and pedals are independently adjustable. Putting it all together would have been straightforward even without the clear instructions with color photographs; with those instructions it's impossible to mess up. They even included a "real" wrench...like one I'd find in my toolbox, not the disposable stamped-metal junk typically included in such contexts. If I was forced, under enhanced interrogation, to find a complaint, I would ask for more lumbar support. But so far I have not been forced to do that (and I have a separate lumbar cushion), so I have no complaints. Now, as to customer service: these guys are incredible! Several reviews with similar praise were definitely a factor in my decision, but even knowing that I've been blown away. At the time of my purchase, the company said a height extension kit was "coming soon" and a couple reviewers indicated they had been sent beta kits for testing. It worked fine without the extension, but I liked the idea of being 6" higher (especially for flying) so I emailed asking about said kit. The company got back to me the same day with a friendly email clearly written by an actual human being; he said that they had finalized the kit (it was no longer in beta) and would be selling it soon....but he'd just go ahead and send me one for free. When it arrived it installed easily, and it's a big improvement when flying. I assume they are now selling it; if you're going to use this for flying I highly recommend getting it, though for driving it's about the same either way. In any case, I would gladly have paid the asking price for it, and I found just sending it over for free impressive. So having already started an email conversation because of the extension, a few weeks into using the rig I made a couple of suggestions for future purchasers, such as either replacing a couple of allen keys with knobs or just including a few more of each. He wrote back and said it was a good idea, and then just sent me a bag of extra allens and knobs! Then at some point he wrote me to say they had redesigned the steering wheel attachment to be less resistant to inadvertent tilt changes; he promptly sent the updated one over for free. The old one hadn't caused me much trouble, but it did need to be tightened down awful hard; the new one is much better, and presumably is now included by default. So that makes three separate items that these nice folks just packaged up and sent to me, for free, voluntarily. Two of them I didn't even request. That's just amazing. Possibly the most impressive customer service I have ever seen. If you couldn't tell by the equipment I attach to this rig, I'm fairly hardcore about this sort of thing. I was willing to spend four digits if I needed to, and looked at some options in that range. If this chair cost $1200, I would still say it's worth it. No kidding. But the good news is, it's not! It's a third of that! You can't afford not to buy it! You're still reading this? It's written like Faulkner for Christ's sake! Quit reading and go buy this rig! ... show more

  • This is worth the purchase
Color: red
Purchased on my wife's account but I wanted to review this myself: I've wanted a home cockpit solution for a long time. Some way to get my peripherals off of my desk and, as a bonus, not wrench my steering wheel or shift knob from its clamp. To not have to hold my flight joystick in my lap and my throttle quadrant sitting on a homemade table. The OpenWheeler fits the bill and then some! I got the basic seat as well as the Civil Aviation configuration and the HOTAS configuration. Also added in the seat risers and the mount for my Buttkicker transducer. Everything came well and safely packaged and labeled at a level I don't think I've experienced before. The bags had each screw set for each possible setup clearly labeled and seperated from the other parts. Bags inside bags had labels. The labels all correspond with a brightly colored, well written instruction manual. There are tools for each part requiring assembly. Real tools that could go in my toolbox. As a bonus, some of the extra configurations required different tools. They were included too. There were tools to deal with 3rd party peripherals! You can literally lock yourself in an isolated room with your peripherals, open the box or boxes and have EVERYTHING you need to assemble anything you purchased without ever leaving that room. Assembly of all of that, by myself, took me about two hours but I was taking my time at it. The only fly in my ointment was trying to attach the seat back to the seat bottom. The holes just didn't want to line up. I eventually put the assembly on its side and was finally able to get everything where it was supposed to be. I think that was more a symptom of trying to do it by myself than any fault with the product, especially considering it hasn't had a single issue at that attachment point since I put it together. I think my only other gripe was with the instructions for assembling the HOTAS. It took me a little bit to realize that I had to remove a base plate from my Warthog throttle quadrant (that I didn't realize was there because I just thought that was the bottom of the throttle) For the assembly itself, the seat is very comfortable and adjustable. Just having the forward/back adjustment alone is awesome. Between the frame adjustments, seat adjustments... Heck, I can even recline the seat back like I do in my car. I've used this for both racing and flying. Its pretty easy to change out the peripherals as the whole thing is modular. Once you tighten it down, its solid as a rock. Racing with a FFB steering wheel, I can crank on the wheel, it can jump and buck all it likes... Solid as a rock. It is a game changer compared to having those things clamped to my desk. For flying, no Force Feedback there but... I can adjust every component to just the right height, just the right distance and, again, solid as a rock. It makes a big difference. The seller is extremely interested in the product and ensuring that the customer is getting outstanding customer support. I reached out to ask about the center mount for the joystick and mentioned that I was looking for another base plate for my joystick so I could switch between HOTAS and center mount easily and not have to disassemble the attachment plates every time. When the seller noticed I had ordered the center mount but had not replied to his answer to my questions, he took it upon himself to include in my order extra base plates as well as some knobs and very detailed instructions on how I could accomplish what I was trying to do. Upon hearing that one of my mounting plates appeared to be tilting and I wasn't sure why, he provided detailed information on what might be wrong, how to fix it and, if I can't fix it, stated he would replace it. The customer service is way above par. As a matter of fact, I can't say if I've ever dealt with a merchant that went that far out of their way to ensure that the customer is happy with their purchase. As I said in the title, I think this is worth the purchase. Not only for a solidly made product that does exactly everything that is advertised and does it very well, but because the customer service itself, the interest of the seller in the customer and the product is, bar none, the best I've ever seen. If you're on the fence, hop off of it. This is an excellent purchase you won't regret. ... show more
