  • Know where your kid is and know what is wrong with your car BEFORE taking it to a car mechanic! Great product!
Classic protective Dad/teen daughter situation. Great kid but "experimenting a bit and growing up a bit too fast for Dad"! Kids too smart and disconnects the Iphone tracking service so I gave up on that and secretly installed Moto's device with an extension cord to hide it further up behind the dash. Easy to down load App on Iphone and also on my laptop and can check her "supposed location" ANYTIME which gives me great peace of mind as well as helped me "correct a few mistruths" with her. She is suspicious, probably figures I set something up on Iphone but keeping this device quiet for both of our benefit. I have not explored all of the features yet and am just happy with the location provider. Price was fair, it works, good customer service and I don't mind paying $20/mo for something so important as my daughter's safety. Also nice to know what is wrong with the car via the "engine diagnostic feature" which is GREAT and helps prevent me from getting ripped off by some dishonest auto mechanic. ... show more

  • Standard equipment if you have a teen. Wonderful item.
I'll be honest... this is not to teach our teen to be a better driver. This is to "trust but verify" what he tells us. This unit was so amazingly simple to install (in secret, of course), and is tucked nicely under the dashboard so it can't be seen. This may just be the design of the car we tagged, and we're sure the location of the port is different in different cars. As a junior license holder, our teen can't drive between 9 pm and 5 am, and we long suspected he wasn't telling us everything when he stayed at a friend's house overnight. Within 24 hours of installing this unit, we knew the truth. We also saw that he drove at 83 (!!!) MPH on the 65-MPH highway. And that he uses the brakes badly. This unit works better than our wildest dreams. ... show more

  • I found the program easy to use
I found the program easy to use, the tracker worked, but it made my daughters car run like crap. I first thought her vehicle had bad fuel or a plugged fuel filter the way it was bucking from a complete stop, but when I took the tracker off, all the problems went away, put it back on and the problems came back. I left messages on the Motosafety chat line, I sent emails, I even called and left a voice mail on their support line to get some help with this product. Not one reply! I really wanted to keep this tracker on my daughters car for peace of mind, I just wanted to talk to someone, anyone, to find out what my options were. If this product is not compatible to certain vehicles then Motosafety should disclose that information, before someone buys it. I sent it back for a full refund. I would not encourage anyone to use this particular tracker, I will be looking for another company to do business with that has better customer service. ... show more

  • An essential for parents of teen drivers
I have a teen driver. My insurance company gave me an OBD tracker as a free trial, but then decided to take it back. I liked the ability to review my kid's driving habits, so went for this. It is fantastic - of all the auto accessoried I have ever bought, this is my favorite. It allows me to see where the car is, where it has been, get alerts if (when!) my son speeds, etc. I love the geo-fence feature - you set an area on a map where the car is allowed to go, and the app reports any departures from that area. The devoce is managed either through a website or a mobile app. Both are very easy to use. Instllation? Hardly woth mentioning. Plug it in and it just works. ... show more

  • False Speeding Alerts. Customer Service Commited to Improving.
We installed this on our 17yo daughter's new (to her) car. It plugs in easily to the OBDII port. The GPS function works great. It reports position every 60 seconds when the car is on, and every 60 minutes when it is off. So far, no issues with battery life based on normal driving. It's advertised for monitoring teen driver safety, but completely fails on the last count. (UPDATE: Following this review, MOTOsafety contacted me regarding the issues brought up below. They apologized for their lapse in customer service and credited my account with one month free service. They also addressed how they were working to correct the false speeding alerts. The 4-star update is reflective of the customer service and anticipated improvements in speeding alerts. Once the speeding alerts are addressed, I'd give it 5 stars.) We were primarily interested in MOTOsafety for the Daily Report Card to monitor her safety and how her driving improves. Unfortunately, most of the posted speed limits in the MOTOsafety database near our home are off by 10-15 MPH. (UPDATE: MOTOsafety speed limits are sourced from Google. They have been working with Google to notify them of incorrect speed limits.) We have the speeding threshold set to +5 MPH, meaning that she gets lots of false speeding alerts, impacting the overall grade she gets in the daily report card. Driving the speed limit meant MOTOsafety thought she was driving 10 MPH over the limit and 5 MPH above the speeding threshold alert. MOTOsafety allows you to "update posted speed limits" on their website by selecting two endpoints on a road and manually setting the speed limit between those two points. It also stores these updates for reference. So far, none of the speed limit updates we've created have had any impact at all. While the website correctly shows where we have updated the speed limits, those updates have not had any impact on MOTOsafety's speeding alerts. (UPDATE: This feature is still not working yet, however MOTOsafety has been working with Google to understand how the speed limits are applied with latitude/longitude to correct this issue. MOTOsafety could not specify a timeline for correction.) For example, the main road off our neighborhood has a posted limit of 50 MPH. MOTOsafety says it is 40 MPH. With the speed alert limit set to +5 MPH, she would get speeding alerts all up and down the main road for traveling the speed limit, which was over 45 MPH (40 MPH + 5 MPH alert threshold). So we went in and set the speed limit for the entire road to 50 MPH just like it is posted, but she still gets speeding alerts for exceeding 45 MPH. None of the speed limit updates we've created have reduced the false speeding alerts. We contacted MOTOsafety customer service about this issue and have yet to receive a response (more than 2 weeks later). We considered setting the speeding alert threshold for +10 MPH, but that would mean speeding on the roads that are correctly marked would go unreported. We also contacted MOTOsafety with a general question about the "harsh braking" and "rapid acceleration" alerts. It's unclear whether these alerts are checked only every 60 seconds like the GPS positioning is, or whether it continuously monitors braking and acceleration. In this case, MOTOsafety customer service responded within 24 hours, but provided a stock answer that did not at all address the question. It only stated that there were two types of speeding alerts, "speeding and high speed", and did not mention how often those alerts were checked. If acceleration and braking are only checked 1x every 60 seconds, then it would be easy for a hard braking situation to go unreported in the 60 seconds between checks. (UPDATE: Following this review, MOTOsafety customer service called and confirmed that the harsh braking and rapid acceleration alerts are calculated continuously using an algorithm - meaning they won't go unreported.) UPDATE (28-AUG-2018): This review has been updated following a discussion with MOTOsafety customer service. MOTOsafety called to address my issues above. The harsh braking and rapid acceleration alerts work continuously rather than every 60 seconds. If speeding alerts are important to you, I recommend waiting as the fix for the false alerts is still in work in coordination with Google. ... show more
