  • Great but flawed
Color: Silver
I absolutely love this controller! I think the Gamecube controller is the best layout ever for the buttons, and having a convenient way to use it with my Switch in both handheld and docked mode is very cool. It is well made from high quality materials, and functions as advertised. The button layout is generally great for most games, although you may need to make a custom control profile that swaps the A/B buttons for some of them. Same with the octagonal thumbstick gate; I find it's very beneficial for isometric games like Super Mario 3D world, and Mario RPG, and can even be nice for games like Mario Odyssey and Metroid Prime. However, the right thumbstick is quite far from the buttons, so I don't really like this controller for games where you use the right thumbstick to control the camera. And being able to switch from octagonal to circular gates is a very nice feature, I find that I like octagonal for the left thumbstick and circular for the right one. The D-pad is ok; it's a significant improvement over the four buttons on the Joycons, but that's a pretty low bar. It's better than the NYXI Hyperion Pro, but worse than the official Nintendo Pro controller. As with all NYXI controllers, the non-HD rumble is WAY too strong, even on the lowest setting. You can use the keylinker app to set the rumble even lower than what the button allows, but the vibration stops working entirely if you go below 26%. I'd like to go lower, but it's tolerable at this level for most games. Probably my biggest complaint is the EXTREMELY bright LEDs on the face of the controller. You can control the brigtness of the A/B/X/Y buttons, but not the indicator lights, which are just amazingly bright. It's not a huge issue in a well lit area, but as soon as it gets dark, this becomes very noticeable, you can legitimayely use the controller as a flashlight. I currently have some light dim stickers covering the LEDs which helps, but that shouldn't be necessary. I'll never understand why NYXI is so focused on making things like LEDs and rumble way too powerful with no option to really turn them down. But flaws aside, it is incredibly comfortable, and for games where you don't use the right thumbstick to control the camera, it is by far my favorite controller. The octagonal gated right thumbstick is almost cheating in some games (Super Mario 3D world, in particular benefits from this massively) and the button layout is just as good now as it was on the Gamecube 20 years ago. If I were to only be getting one controller, I would probably recommend to look into a certain competitor that offers Joycons with HD rumble and replaceable face plates that offer an octagonal gate. But paired with another more "normal" option, the Gamecube style layout is really nice to have around! ... show more

  • Impractical design for something premium priced.
Color: Purple
Overall this is a functioning controller with responsive buttons and is the appropriate shape for trying to resemble a Gamecube controller. The wireless functionality worked just fine and had no overall issues. The main issues I have with this particular item are what I can only describe as a very shortsighted design mentality. I do feel the controller has a bit of a "slippery" handling to it in terms of how it feels to execute moves (the only use this saw was playing Smash Ultimate, which I suspect will be its purpose for most people buying it) but I admit such a thing could be more subjective. The first more objective criticism would be in the design of the "C" stick, or in this case its right analog stick. Unlike a Gamecube controller whose right stick is a smaller nub not meant for constant directional use, they opted to make the stick on this controller a towering, full-hatted stick. Now, I imagine this decision was made so that it could be used more like a traditional analog stick in modern games, but the fact of the matter is that the design layout of this controller makes it impractical for anything but an actual Gamecube game, as the buttons are shuffled around when used as a Pro Controller. Is it possible? Certianly. Do I expect most anyone to be using it as such? Not at all. Why does it matter, you ask? Given the Gamecube layout, those puts the B button uncomfortably close to that wider, taller stick and as such the entire time I was playing Smash with it, any time I would use a special move involving the B button my thumb would go against this stick and risk pushing it in a direction. If you play Smash you know that tilting the C-stick will initiate a different attack altogether so during frenetic moments. This is very problematic and led to a lot of frustrating accidents. The other design flaw is one I can think of no real rationality for, and that is how this blasted thing is charged. Since it is technically two "Joy Cons" and thus can be detached from the center piece, it means that each controller half can be handled independently and thus have their own internal battery. Given that these are modeled after a Gamecube, they are not at all wieldable that way as they are far too wide, so I can only assume they are this way so that you can snap them onto the sides of the Switch itself for handheld mode. I grant that there is use to that, but the compromise they arrived at to make this possible is simply too irritating; each half has its own charging port with no way to charge them through one cable. The center piece that the two halves snap onto has no power or charge of its own and is just a hollow piece of plastic. I really feel like *it* should have been the battery with a charging port in the bottom while the two controller halves are powered off of it. What really made this offensive to me was the lack of any pack-in item to facilitate charging these properly. Obviously you will always be using both halves in tandem no matter what you will be doing so you will therefore want to keep these evenly charged, and as such you would think that *surely* they would include some kind of cable or charger that can charge both halves at once? You would, unfortunately, be mistaken in thinking that. This comes with a single USB C cable with only one tip on it. If they had at *least* included a charging cable that split off into two tips to charge them simultaneously I would have given them a little bit of credit for their design compromise, but to only include a single-tip cable like that felt awfully insulting for something priced at such a high premium. Overall, I see no real niche for this thing unless you desperately need a wireless option shaped just like a Gamecube controller and don't want to do any sort of modding or using bluetooth adapters. Otherwise I highly recommend just getting the Hori Switch battle pad. It's regularly hovering around thirty bucks, feels great, has great buttons, doesn't have squishy analog triggers for its shoulder buttons (modern Smash does not have any use for those), and quite frankly I find them more attractive. ... show more

  • Awesome nintendo Switch controller
Color: Purple
This controller is one of the best controllers I ever used on video games & it's the best controller that I played with on Nintendo Switch. The buttons on each side on the back of the controller parts irritated me for a while, but I eventually figured out how to turn off the macro/programming buttons so it wouldn't interrupt my games when I play. All you do is hold down the macro button/s (that are under the Home button or Photo/Video button) for 3sec to turn them off. Sometimes you just gotta read the instruction manual, LOL! It is pretty easy to accidentally program the back buttons, but I will still give this controller a 5star (or at least a 4½). ... show more

  • Great controller for your switch
Color: Purple
If you are looking for something more GameCube-ish, this controller is great not only as standalone but on the switch itself. Using it instead of joy cons makes the switch a little more ergonomic to hold than a flat slab. Overall I would recommend, but the layout may not be to everyone’s liking.
