  • Fantastic!
May seem a bit expensive, but if you work with a lot of different sizes of nuts and bolts, or just want to organize your lifetime collection p, these are great. Quality is excellent. I intended to purchase the type that is permanently mounted on a solid board, but thought these might be easier to use. I was right. So glad I got this style. Also this set has more sizes than most, including course and fine of each one. I love they are on a small cable with loop. I hang them on the side of my bolt bin, but they are easy to take anywhere you need them. Yes, they are easily worth the price! ... show more

  • Fantastic invention with almost all of the common sizes.
Found this after thinking "Oh, I wonder if anyone has done this before." And Lo! Product works very well. In particular, the "internal thread" section (for checking screws/bolts) is deep enough to catch the difference between a 1mm pitch, and a 24 TPI pitch. Which leads me to my only significant complaint: #12-24 is missing! I've been told it's "not as common" anymore, which may well be true, but my 500x box of #12-24s I have from my 19" rack mounting days disagrees. There's actually a significant size gap between #10 and 1/4 inch. Importantly, a #12-24 can be easily mistaken for a M6. A #12-24 will fit rather loosely into a M6 nut, and the thread pitch is very close; a single nut's depth won't catch the discrepancy, which is why it's more important to have included #12-24 in the thread checker! Another brand of thread checker (from boltdepot) is also missing #12-24. It's a conspiracy, I tell you! :) In addition, some of the values printed can be a teensy bit hard to read, specifically where the paint application has been inconsistent. Since the stamping is very good, a bit of paint and a wipe with a solvent dampened rag addresses that perfectly. However, it isn't really needed... I'm just enthusiastic about good instruments. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with this. I can now OCD-like sort out my box of random screws with confidence (except for #12-24 :) ) ... show more

  • Quality product
The only bad thing that I can say is that it would be great if they came apart. But then I'd probably end up losing one. I have used these many times since buying them.

  • Lettering could be better and my solution to the cable system
The ones I've tried are accurate, and I have no doubts the rest are as well, judging by the other reviews. Quality is good enough, but on more than a few some of the paint is missing from the numbers. I may fix them with the techniques mentioned by at least one other reviewer, who also had this problem. For the price, they should pay more attention to this detail and they should not require touch-ups right out of the package. Like many other reviewers, I also dislike the cable storage system for the way it makes using them more difficult. My solution was to use some closed cell foam packing material and make holes in it for them to sit snugly in. A drill bit worked well to get the holes started, and I used a soldering iron to melt them larger, but a bit smaller than each checker so they fit tight and won't fall out, even if held upside down. Next I wrote each size on the foam with a ultra-fine point sharpie. Finally the foam was hot glued to the bottom of a Target up and up 25 oz snap-and-store food storage container. I've used this foam-glued-into-a-container to store my router bits and I'll use it for other tools as well. I'm happy with its effectiveness, simplicity and low-cost. All in all I'm happy with the thread checkers and am very happy to now have them on hand to help with my tinkering and anal retentive fastener organization. ... show more

  • Identical to others on Amazon, but this is the best price
I had finally had enough of heading to HD or Lowe's to check odd thread sizes. I originally thought I wanted a thread check board like they have in the stores, as I had never seen these, but they are so much handier. They do everything a thread checking board can do, plus they are portable to take to the piece, and can be used to check tapped holes in a large piece, which a stationary board can't do. I originally was going to get the S&W thread checkers, both SAE and Metric, for a total price of $72.96, but I decided to try these instead for a price of $57.50, figuring "How different can they be?". It turns out they're not different al all - both are the identical products, made by "Thread Checker", items number SWTC-S21 and SWTC-M21. So buy the Amazon recommended combo pack, and save yourself $15! I used the savings to help justify purchasing the SAE and Metric mini-sets, which are the tough ones to determine. I can usually figure the larger sizes using a dial caliper and counting TPI, but for the tiny stuff, a Thread Checker is better. ... show more

  • Great tool buy I made improvemnts
Great tool! Both the Metric set and SAE set were BOTH labeled well with thread sizes on both sets. When I was doing my research on line on which brand of thread checker to buy what I Didn’t like about what I read on line from many other reviewers was that you can’t take the individual sizes off the metal cable. The idea of keeping all of the sizes all together on a cable makes sense as far as to not lose any pieces…but.. in the real world when doing a job to have no choice but to have to flip the whole set of tools on the cable just to get the thread size for which bolt I need to buy for a machine that I’m working on is terrible design as far from ergonomic goes. So…What I did was ……I took my Dremel cutting power tool and I cut the metal cables off for BOTH thread checker sets it took 2 seconds to cut both cables and I’m so glad I did. I now keep the individual sizes of tools of both metric and SAE in a small Rubbermaid type plastic container that has those swinging latching levers on the lids to lock the lid to preventing the tools from getting loose. I know that the tools are no longer “safe” OFF the cable… but… I am responsible tool owner and I will take the convenience of being able to pick just one of the sizes to try rather than having to flip the whole set. I would definitely buy this tool and again, and I would definably recommend the tool to a family member or friend ….If you do buy this tool, consider cutting the tools off the cables. GREAT TOOL !! ... show more
