I put the outboard engine lock on today. It fits without modification on a Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke. I will hit the lock mechanism with CorrosionX. We are in the Caribbean and I expect 304 stainless to rust pretty quickly. I knocked off one-star because it is not 316 stainless. I'd rather provide my own long shackle brass lock than use another keyed lock. Followup March 31 - it took about 20 days for superficial rust to appear. I removed the lock, cleaned up the lock, and doused it with corrosionX. I'll be taking the lock off to lubricate it when I lube the ABUS lock I have on my security chain. ... show more

These are way better than the ferrous steel ones by Master lock. Be sure to keep the key hole facing down and well lubricated, in fact, squirt some graphite into the key slot and then after screwing it tight, pack the key hole with marine grease....at least if you are using it in salt water in a daily basis. The case is stainless steel but the lick mechanism is not especially corrosion resistant so it will need maintenance or may jamb up. There's a learning curve for assembly but not too difficult after you get a feel for it. Good value and anything you can do to keep your outboard is worth it. I recommend using this in conjunction with a Kryptonite cable or similar. ... show more

We had our outboard stolen by low-lifes. Purchased this item so it would be more difficult. So far we still have the outboard. Seems like it is well made and has not corroded even though it is near salt water. The rubber inside keeps it from rattleing, and the lock seems solid enough. Much less expensive than other, similar items. ... show more

Initially, It appears to be well made. Time and corrosion resistance will have to tell. I like that the key slot is on the bottom and hidden so that water shouldn't get in there and seize up the lock. Also appreciate the foam padding inside. Locks solid and doesn't appear to rattle or make noise which is a significant step up from the previous lock I had. So far very happy with it. ... show more

    • Product crapy and no way to contact seller
1st one never came so I did a return they keep asking for it back i keep putting in notes that i never received it to return back. Then they charge me again for it because I did not return what I did not get! 2nd one came and you can get it off a small motor when locked by just pivoting it around a few times and no key but off motor. So bought 2 and won't use the one I have! ... show more
