Let me start by first off saying that I have tried just about every self-tanner out there. I've always struggled with an orangy and/or inconsistant color. I've tried Mystic Tanning - which I found to be just "ok" and spray tans done by professionals @ salons. I found the spray tans to be - by FAR - the most realistic looking tan...but the price was crazy and I couldn't afford to keep it up. I saw that the salon I was going to was using this brand - Norvell Amber Sun Dark and decided to buy it myself. My husband uses this solution in his air compressor (nothing fancy...just a normal compressor) - there are a ton of youtube video's on how to properly tan someone using this method. I LOVE this solution - it is bronzy and not at all orange or brassy looking. There is a smell afterwards but it's not bad...kind of smells like tanning lotion. I like that this has a bronzing agent in it because you can see where it's going and make sure its even. Honestly, I can't imagine using a solution without the bronzer in it - I've tried before and I felt I was working blindly; guessing if it was consistant - and then the next day after it fully develops, it's too late to fix it. I highly recommend this product. I have very fair skin and this Dark solution is perfect for me. Usually I do 2 full passes of this and then we go back to see if we need to "touch up" anywhere. You will be immediately tan so you'll be able to see where you need to apply more. As with all self tanners, it helps to exfoliate first. I always apply the night before (you will feel a bit "tacky" for several hours afterwards) and by the next morning, I can shower to get that extra bronzer off, and the tan remaining is perfect. It definately is on the dark side - but its very realistic. I've gotten SO many compliments on this. I also like the "Venetian" formula....but this one is my favorite. By Day 4 I see fading in areas but it's still ok. Day 5, I simply exfoliate really well to even it out as much as I can and then re-apply. Doing this maintains my tan. This whole bottle is the cost of 1 spray tan in my area. I'd say I get about 8 spray tans out of this bottle and I apply pretty heavily. Highly recommend this product!! ... show more

This color has a lot of great reviews, but I find it to be very orange. I personally won't get this color again because I prefer ones with a purple base or undertone.

Very potent and liquidy- unforgiving to clothing or carpet spills! also will leave streaks where it drips so mix well, use gloves. I find this product is not as sticky as others when it is dry! And I have tried ALL self-tanners. As someone who uses tanning on a professional stage, I would definitely recommend it. It doesnt give immediate stage tan, but a noticeably darker shade. People in the professional sphere would point out that I looked more tan during practice and rehearsal in prepping for performances. I personally mix it with a mousse and sleep in it over night; when used with jergens foam; the tan is natural enough to wear around for the day prior to showering. I will be sticking with some mix of this formula added with others, which is a huge compliment ... show more

    • Long review with instructions. TL;DR - THIS WORKS AMAZING.

Been buying this for years. I truly love it. I exfoliate with sugar scrub and a body brush in the shower. When i get out i don't dry off, I apply a shea butter based lotion, all over, then dry off with a super clean newish towel (no lint). Then I put on more lotion, on dry skin prone areas, little more on my knees, wrists, elbows, and the whole top of my feet. I use an old, empty, jergiens natural glow foam pump bottle, and pour all of this tanner into it. Shake it a little. Give it two-five pumps to get any old mix out of bottle. Then, from the pump foam bottle, I apply it directly to my skin, avoiding dry skin areas, and spread quickly , then rub vigorously in circular motions until it's all absorbed and even. You'll want to go over any dry prone areas very lightly as your rubbing it all in. And after, you'll want to remain undressed a little longer with my method, the lotion, depending on what you use, can make the tanner take longer to absorb. I usually just apply it at night, and sleep in the nude. I get perfect results this way. The tanner lasts longer, faded nicely. When I shower with this on I use warm, not hot, water. I use a soft bristled body brush and mix my moisturising body wash with coco butter lotion. I'll usually apply it twice days in a row to get the dark color I'm looking for. It works soooo well. On the face, it can make your pores look clogged, so I use it sparingly on my face. My face usually turns out lighter , but I use a foundation that matches my tanned body so it's not a big deal. ... show more
